Senior Software Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Oversee backend development by creating and sustaining server-side logic.

• Take full ownership of the services you develop: deploying, operating, and ensuring their health in production rather than transferring responsibility.

• Collaborate closely with our CloudEng Team to uphold and enhance production environments, which includes monitoring and alerting using tools such as OpenTelemetry, Sentry, Prometheus, and Grafana.

• Engage in an on-call/off-hours support rotation, diagnosing and resolving production issues, and teaming up with CloudEng and support teams to investigate incidents, handle bug reports, and maintain application reliability.

• Occasionally transition into a support role, managing releases, dependency updates, and incoming work requests from customer support and other stakeholders.

• Thoughtfully implement AI-assisted development tools to accelerate progress and enhance quality, while exercising sound judgment regarding their appropriate use.

• Collaborate with and assist stakeholders (e.g., front-end, platform) to ensure backend systems, APIs, and data contracts meet their requirements.

• Partner with frontend and cross-functional teams to synchronize project objectives, contribute to API design, and ensure backend systems, APIs, and data contracts fulfill their needs.

• Engage in code reviews to uphold high standards of code quality and system reliability.

• Participate in security and privacy assessments to guarantee that all data protection measures comply with established standards.

⛳️ Requirements

• 4+ years of experience in software development with a significant emphasis on backend technologies.

• Extensive professional experience with Python, TypeScript/Node.js, or Rust in building back-end services, along with the confidence to lead back-end engineering projects.

• Expertise in PostgreSQL and SQL query optimization, including relational schema design and migrations using a query builder like Knex.

• Hands-on DevOps experience on Google Cloud Platform (GCP), with Docker-based build and deploy pipelines. You should be adept at deploying, managing, and resolving issues with cloud services rather than delegating that responsibility.

• Practical experience with observability and monitoring tools such as Sentry and Grafana.

• A practical commitment to delivering quality work. You care about the quality and reliability of your outputs, make reasonable trade-offs under real constraints, and consistently progress work to production.

• Strong engineering judgment, capable of navigating ambiguity, evaluating trade-offs, and making informed decisions with incomplete information, knowing when to seek input.

• A true ownership mentality. You are eager to take full responsibility for a service from start to finish and have a history of managing what you create in production, including experience with on-call or off-hours production support.

• Experience mentoring junior engineers and promoting technical excellence in code quality, testing, and process improvements.
