This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Canada.
• Lead the backend development, focusing on constructing and maintaining server-side logic.
• Take genuine ownership of the services you develop: deploy, operate, and ensure their health in production instead of passing them off.
• Collaborate closely with our CloudEng Team to sustain and enhance production environments, utilizing monitoring and alerting tools such as OpenTelemetry, Sentry, Prometheus, and Grafana.
• Engage in an on-call/off-hours support rotation, troubleshooting and resolving production issues, working alongside CloudEng and support teams to investigate incidents, address bug reports, and maintain application reliability.
• Occasionally transition into a support role, managing releases, dependency updates, and incoming requests from customer support and other stakeholders.
• Thoughtfully utilize AI-assisted development tools to accelerate progress and improve quality, while exercising discernment regarding their appropriate application.
• Collaborate with and support stakeholders (e.g., front-end, platform) to ensure backend systems, APIs, and data contracts satisfy their requirements.
• Work with frontend and cross-functional teams to align on project objectives, contribute to API design, and ensure backend systems, APIs, and data contracts meet their needs.
• Participate in code reviews to uphold high standards of code quality and system reliability.
• Engage in security and privacy assessments to ensure that all data protection measures comply with required standards.
• Minimum of 4 years of experience in software development, emphasizing backend technologies.
• Strong professional experience in Python, TypeScript/Node.js, or Rust for developing back-end services, with confidence in leading backend engineering projects.
• Proficiency in PostgreSQL and SQL query optimization, including relational schema design and migrations utilizing a query builder like Knex.
• Practical DevOps experience on Google Cloud Platform (GCP), with Docker-based build and deployment pipelines. You are comfortable with deploying, operating, and troubleshooting cloud services instead of delegating those responsibilities.
• Hands-on experience with observability and monitoring tools such as Sentry and Grafana.
• A pragmatic approach to delivering quality work. You prioritize the quality and reliability of your outputs, make sensible trade-offs under real constraints, and consistently push work into production.
• Strong engineering judgment. You can navigate ambiguity, assess trade-offs, and make informed decisions even with incomplete information, knowing when to seek input.
• A true ownership mindset. You are eager to take full responsibility for a service from start to finish and have a history of operating what you've built in production, including experience with on-call or off-hours support.
• Experience in mentoring junior engineers and promoting technical excellence in code quality, testing, and process enhancements.
• Generous performance-based bonus plans for all eligible employees - we celebrate our success as one team.
• Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision coverage.
• Generous retirement contributions with 100% immediate vesting (regardless of personal contributions).
• Quarterly all-company wellness days where everyone takes a collective break.
• Country-specific holidays plus an additional day off for your birthday.
• One-time stipend for setting up a home office.
• Annual budget for professional development.
• Quarterly well-being stipend.
• Significant paid parental leave.
• Employee referral bonus program.
• Additional benefits (life/AD&D, disability, EAP, etc. - varies by country).
