This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Kenya.
• Design and create scalable, dependable systems that drive our fundamental operations—be it donor platforms, systems that facilitate payments directly to beneficiaries, or crisis response tools impacting hundreds of thousands globally.
• Take ownership of the entire development cycle for new features and services, from architecture to deployment and monitoring.
• Enhance our developer workflows by optimizing CI/CD pipelines, minimizing manual processes, and boosting test coverage.
• Work in collaboration with cross-functional teams (product, operations, data) to grasp real-world requirements and deliver tools that effectively support program implementation in the field.
• Troubleshoot and resolve production issues throughout our stack, focusing on root cause analysis and sustainable solutions.
• Promote sustainable engineering practices, encompassing testing, documentation, and monitoring.
• Contribute to shaping our technology roadmap with a focus on scalability, maintainability, and recipient experience.
• A minimum of 4 years of industry experience in creating production-quality software and systems.
• Proficient in backend architecture: databases, cloud services, and APIs.
• Experience in building infrastructure for software deployment.
• Familiarity with strongly-typed, object-oriented programming languages such as Java, C#, Go, etc., as well as scripting languages like Python, Ruby, etc.
• High level of ownership and autonomy—actively seeking ways to enhance systems and consistently improving our codebase.
• Strong analytical and communication abilities—capable of deconstructing complex issues, articulating technical trade-offs, and collaborating with cross-functional partners (e.g., technical program managers, product managers).
• Bonus: Experience using Python and AWS in a production setting.
• Bonus: Experience with payments/financial software and/or microservice/serverless architecture.
