This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California.
• Familiarize yourself with the entire platform — encompassing all VDC workloads, dependencies, and risk factors. Much of this will be achieved through code, documentation, and discussions rather than direct access to the environment.
• Collaborate with subject matter experts across the organization to bridge knowledge gaps and create onboarding materials for the team.
• Draft and maintain runbooks, architecture documentation, and operational guides.
• Design infrastructure that ensures high availability and fault tolerance on Azure (including Azure Government).
• Establish SLIs, SLOs, and error budgets where they currently do not exist.
• Manage incident responses and conduct blameless postmortems. Transform incidents into enhancements.
• Identify reliability risks within both modern and legacy workloads and develop feasible remediation plans that adhere to compliance constraints.
• Address observability gaps — determine instrumentation needs and oversee implementation.
• Set standards for alerting, telemetry, and monitoring in collaboration with partner teams.
• Create automation to minimize manual effort and facilitate fleet management.
• Engage in on-call rotations.
• Work with Infrastructure as Code (IaC), CI/CD, deployment automation, and configuration management — including in air-gapped or compliance-restricted settings.
• Develop and sustain testing, canary deployment, and release validation pipelines.
• Integrate chaos engineering and monitoring tools, adapting selections to comply with regulatory requirements.
• Collaborate across product, platform, security, legal, compliance, and operations teams.
• Take ownership of problems end-to-end — pinpoint gaps, drive solutions, and do not await direction.
• Mentor fellow engineers and promote SRE practices throughout the organization.
• Over 7 years of experience in Software Engineering, including at least 3 years in SRE, Platform Engineering, or a related field — preferably across multi-service platforms rather than single-service environments.
• Familiarity with Government or Sovereign Cloud (e.g., Azure Government, AWS GovCloud).
• Experience in regulated compliance environments — such as government (FedRAMP, CMMC, IL2/IL4/IL5), financial (PCI-DSS, SOX), or healthcare (HIPAA, HITRUST). You understand the influence of compliance on architecture and operations.
• Extensive experience in building and managing production services on cloud infrastructure (Azure preferred, including Azure Government).
• Quick learner of large, complex platforms with minimal guidance — adept at developing understanding from code, documentation, and architectural artifacts when direct access to the environment is limited.
• Capable of independently investigating systems and producing clear documentation, risk assessments, and improvement strategies.
• Comfortable collaborating with various teams — engineering, product, security, compliance, and operations.
• Proficient in one or more programming languages: TypeScript/JS, Go, Java, C#, or similar.
• Experience with monitoring and observability tools (e.g., Prometheus, Grafana, OpenTelemetry, ELK stack).
• Knowledge of IaC (Terraform, Terragrunt, Pulumi) and container orchestration (Kubernetes).
• Experience with CI/CD and GitOps tools — GitHub Actions, Azure DevOps, GitLab CI, ArgoCD, FluxCD, or Dagger.
• Strong understanding of distributed systems, networking, and cloud-native architecture.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Unlimited paid time off, 12 paid holidays including 4 global VeeaMe Days for self-care and 24 paid volunteer hours annually through Veeam Cares.
• Paid parental leave: 8 weeks for all parents, 16 weeks for birthing parents.
• Medical, dental, and vision coverage beginning on your first day.
• Mental health support, therapy sessions, and digital wellness tools via our Employee Assistance Program.
• 401(k) retirement plan with company matching contributions.
• Support for fertility, adoption, and surrogacy through Maven, along with paid volunteer time.
• AirVet: 24/7 virtual veterinary care at no cost.
• Legal services, identity protection, and supplemental health insurance options.
• Tax-advantaged spending accounts for healthcare, dependent care, and commuting.
• Opportunities for learning and growth through on-demand libraries (LinkedIn Learning, O’Reilly), mentoring, workshops, and events like our annual Global Day of Learning.
