Senior DevOps Engineer – AWS, Python

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Costa Rica.

📋 Description

• Capable of reviewing code within GitHub repositories and performing necessary maintenance.

• Evaluate and create a strategy for each repository to document the code, enhance test coverage, and ensure effective maintenance.

• Boost AWS infrastructure test coverage from approximately 10% to 90% across the repositories.

• Spearhead the design and improvement of automation frameworks and CI/CD pipelines, establishing standards of excellence.

• Design and oversee intricate cloud environments, prioritizing performance, security, and scalability.

• Address complex system performance challenges, utilizing advanced analytical skills to uphold reliability and efficiency.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, IT, or a related discipline; or equivalent hands-on experience.

• Over 5 years of experience in DevOps, with strong coding skills in Python.

• At least five years of experience delivering production systems, particularly focused on Infrastructure-as-Code.

• Proven experience in writing and publishing reusable, thoroughly tested modules or libraries for use by other teams and team members.

• Minimum four years of experience with Continuous Integration and Continuous Delivery tools (e.g., Azure DevOps Services, GitHub Actions, etc.), along with the ability to mentor other engineers.

• Skilled in integrating security during the design phase and regularly assessing the effectiveness of security measures.

• Experience in conducting code reviews, managing pull requests, and adhering to source control protocols such as Git Flow or Trunk-Based Development.

• Proven track record in designing and delivering two or more infrastructure systems (e.g., Azure PaaS, Azure IaaS, Windows or Linux servers, SAN, Exchange, IIS, Active Directory, Azure AD, etc.) with automation and central configuration management.

• Familiarity with various database technologies, including platforms, authentication, and connectivity, with the ability to write complex SQL queries.

• Extensive knowledge in automation tools (Ansible, Puppet, Chef), cloud platforms (AWS), and containerization technologies (Docker, Kubernetes).

• Advanced understanding of monitoring, logging (Prometheus, ELK), source control (Git), networking, security, and database management.

• Strong leadership capabilities, with the ability to mentor others, influence cross-functional teams, and lead by example in a collaborative setting.

• Exceptional team collaboration skills, effectively working with cross-functional teams to promote teamwork and cooperation.

• Outstanding English communication skills with team members, stakeholders, and customers, ensuring a clear and effective exchange of information.

• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a detail-oriented approach to efficiently identifying and resolving system issues.

• Self-driven and detail-focused, capable of working independently and under pressure, managing multiple priorities and deadlines efficiently.

• Experience in conveying technical concepts to technically skilled audiences is required.

• Proficient in systematic debugging to identify cross-service issues; capable of automating end pipelines, sometimes with assistance from more senior engineers.

• Knowledgeable in Test Driven Development principles, methods, and tools, with demonstrated experience in unit testing, integration testing, and performance testing.

• Proficient verbal and written communication skills for effective interaction.

• Available on an on-call basis to address pending issues or problems during non-business hours and provide necessary support.

• Must possess geographical flexibility to align with global market hours, primarily working from 9 AM to 5 PM Eastern time.
