This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California, +5 more states.
• Taking responsibility for tasks and large-scale projects from the initial planning stage through to production deployment.
• Acquiring knowledge of new technologies and developing expertise with the intention of educating and mentoring others, effectively amplifying impact through documentation and tools.
• Managing the organization's cloud presence within AWS.
• Automating and deploying infrastructure configurations utilizing Infrastructure as Code (IAC).
• Guiding engineering teams on best practices for Platforms concerning Kubernetes, MySQL, Kafka, and various areas of the software development lifecycle.
• Supporting engineering teams with capacity planning, on-call readiness, and ensuring production reliability.
• Creating documentation and runbooks that enhance the engineering organization’s knowledge repository.
• Establishing monitoring and alerting systems using Discogs observability tools.
• Operating within a containerized and orchestrated environment.
• Engaging in on-call rotations, addressing incidents, and resolving data and operational challenges.
• Contributing to the reliability and design standards of our Kafka CDC and event-driven workflows.
• Participating in the development of agentic AI best practices and tools, including skills, agents, and safety measures.
• Over 5 years of experience in Operations, DevOps, Site Reliability, Platform, or other systems-related roles.
• A Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent relevant experience.
• Proficiency in Infrastructure-as-Code (Terraform).
• Experience with CI/CD (GitHub Actions).
• Knowledge of Kubernetes (EKS, Kustomize, Karpenter, administration, application manifests).
• Familiarity with AWS and cloud development (VPC, EKS, RDS, S3).
• Understanding of FinOps and cloud cost optimization strategies.
• Experience with observability tools (Datadog, Sentry).
• Knowledge of agentic AI (Claude Code).
• Proficient in scripting (Shell, Python).
• Demonstrated ability in collaboration and mentorship.
• Strong written communication and documentation abilities.
• Commitment to continuous learning.
• A proactive attitude towards ownership and resolving large-scale challenges.
• Preferred: Experience with Kafka (Cluster administration using Strimzi, Kafka Connect with Debezium and JDBC), Flink, relational database management and optimization (MySQL, Percona Server, AWS RDS), Elasticsearch (ECK administration, scaling, performance), Python (SQLAlchemy, FastAPI), GraphQL (schema design, Apollo federation), REST API, GitOps (ArgoCD), Hashicorp Vault, Redis, and Memcached.
