This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Canada.
• Take the lead on one or more large, highly complex accounts; develop and implement integrated medical and scientific communication strategies (publication planning, communication tactics).
• Act as the main scientific liaison for client stakeholders and clinical leaders; align the scientific strategy with brand priorities.
• Set quality standards and best practices for the teams involved.
• Supervise the production of high-quality content for manuscripts, congress materials, training content, digital assets, and MLR-regulated materials.
• Perform thorough scientific reviews to ensure accuracy, alignment, and stylistic consistency (AMA, client style guides, journal/congress guidelines).
• Ensure adherence to relevant industry standards (e.g., Good Publication Practices, International Committee of Medical Journal Editors guidelines, PhRMA guidelines).
• Lead and advocate for submissions in MLR systems; independently resolve scientific issues.
• Facilitate scientific discussions, workshops, speaker training sessions, and advisory boards; represent the organization externally.
• Provide scientific leadership during pitches and proposals; collaborate with Client Services on resourcing, scoping, and forecasting.
• Manage 3-5 direct reports (ASDs and SDs); conduct performance evaluations, set objectives, and support career development.
• Identify training requirements; develop structured plans to enhance capabilities.
• Contribute to project scoping and resource planning; proactively escalate any risks.
• Assist in recruitment efforts for team hires.
• Ensure strong version control, documentation discipline, and compliance with internal procedures.
• Streamline scientific workflows and processes to boost consistency and efficiency.
• Anticipate risks and complex challenges; implement mitigation strategies; share insights on therapeutic areas and industry trends to enhance team knowledge.
• An advanced degree in a scientific or healthcare-related field is preferred (e.g., MSc, PhD, PharmD, MD).
• Candidates with a related bachelor’s or master’s degree combined with extensive experience may also be considered.
• Approximately 8+ years of experience in medical communications or medical writing, including leadership of multi-asset or multi-account projects and oversight of scientific teams.
• Around 3+ years of experience in people management and coaching.
• Exceptional skills in scientific writing, editing, and data interpretation; thorough understanding of publication standards when applicable.
• Strong strategic thinking and client leadership skills; expert facilitation and presentation abilities.
• In-depth knowledge of the clinical research and regulatory landscape; comfortable guiding MLR submissions.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office, graphic and image generation software, and collaboration platforms.
• Excellent organizational and time management skills.
• Remote or hybrid work options based on location.
• Occasional overnight travel (up to approximately 20%).
