Senior Researcher – Patient Centered Outcomes Assessment

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in North Carolina.

📋 Description

• Oversee intricate patient-centered outcomes research initiatives from the initial design stage to the final delivery.

• Act as the project leader for cross-functional teams, ensuring timely project completion, adherence to scope, and the highest scientific standards.

• Provide strategic guidance on study design, methodology, regulatory interactions, and plans for evidence generation.

• Handle project risks, manage client expectations, allocate resources, and assess team performance.

• Function as a reliable scientific consultant for clients and internal stakeholders.

• Actively participate in the design, execution, analysis, interpretation, and reporting of qualitative and mixed-methods research studies.

• Design and execute qualitative research involving patients, caregivers, patient advocates, and key opinion leaders in the clinical field, including both standalone and clinical trial-related studies.

• Lead the creation, modification, and assessment of clinical outcome assessments (COAs), encompassing patient-reported outcomes (PROs), observer-reported outcomes (ObsROs), clinician-reported outcomes (ClinROs), and related metrics.

• Review and critically evaluate published literature, COA development initiatives, and psychometric evidence.

• Develop patient-centered evidence strategies to meet regulatory, access & reimbursement, and healthcare decision-making requirements.

• Contribute directly to study reports, client presentations, evidence dossiers, briefing documents, and negotiations with key decision-makers to support patient-centered value messaging for medications.

• Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with current and prospective clients.

• Facilitate scientific discussions with pharmaceutical and biotechnology sponsors concerning patient-focused drug development strategies.

• Assist in business development efforts through proposal drafting, client meetings, capability presentations, and identifying growth opportunities.

• Lead and contribute to scientific publications, conference abstracts, posters, presentations, and manuscripts.

• Represent RTI-HS at scientific gatherings, industry conferences, and client interactions.

• Provide daily leadership, mentorship, and coaching to junior and mid-level researchers.

• Promote technical excellence, knowledge sharing, and professional growth across project teams.


⛳️ Requirements

• A postgraduate master’s degree plus at least 8 years of experience in patient-centered research, or a PhD with a minimum of 5 years in the same field.

• Proven experience in leading complex patient-centered research projects and multidisciplinary teams within consulting, pharmaceutical, regulatory, CRO, or academic research settings that support patient-focused drug development.

• Demonstrated success in managing client relationships, mentoring research personnel, and leading project teams.

• Extensive experience in developing and effectively executing patient-centered evidence-generation strategies for pharmaceutical clients.

• Established experience in engaging with regulatory bodies, including the FDA, EMA, or other global health authorities, as well as addressing evidence needs for access stakeholders (payers, HTA, and prescribers).

• Experience in leading proposal development and contributing to initiatives for business growth.

• Strong publication history and experience in presenting research at scientific conferences.
