
Senior Reliability Engineer – Embedded Products

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Conduct reliability modeling and statistical analysis for energy management and protection/control products.
• Create and implement reliability test strategies for hardware and software, including Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL), environmental tests, and stress testing.
• Facilitate and direct FMEA, FMECA, and root cause analysis for failures in hardware and software.
• Integrate Design for Reliability principles from initial concept through to deployment alongside product design, systems engineering, and software teams.
• Evaluate field data from deployed relays, Remote Terminal Units (RTUs), and control systems.
• Partner with utilities and customers on initiatives aimed at enhancing grid asset performance and modernization.
• Establish and monitor reliability Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) such as Mean Time Between Failures (MTBF), Failure In Time (FIT) rate, and availability metrics.
• Promote predictive and condition-based maintenance through the use of remote diagnostics, SCADA systems, and sensor data.
• Align reliability objectives with the Innovation Office and Applications team.
• Oversee compliance with regulatory requirements that impact utility asset reliability and cybersecurity.
• Mentor, train, and support internal teams and external stakeholders in reliability practices.
• Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, Systems Engineering, or a related field.
• Significant experience in reliability, systems, or product engineering within the energy or utility industry.
• Knowledge of protection and control systems, grid-edge devices, substation automation, and utility-grade software.
• Practical experience with reliability engineering tools and standards such as ReliaSoft, ISO 9001/55000, and IEC 61025.
• Familiarity with IEC 61850, DNP3, Modbus, IEEE C37.118, and related transmission and distribution (T&D) communications standards.
• Proficiency in Python, R, Minitab, or Power BI for data analysis tasks.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills for collaboration with cross-functional teams and utility customers.
• Comprehensive understanding of T&D grid reliability challenges.
• Ability to think systemically and solve complex problems.
• Data-driven approach with a focus on long-term product health.
• Understanding of regulatory compliance and cybersecurity issues relevant to critical infrastructure, including NERC, IEEE, and IEC standards.
• A Master's degree in Reliability or Systems Engineering is preferred.
• Certification as a Reliability Engineer (CRE) or equivalent is preferred.
• Experience with model-based design and HIL testing, including RTDS, PSCAD, or EMTP, is preferred.
• Direct experience working with T&D utilities is preferred.
