Senior QA Performance Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Costa Rica.

📋 Description

• Strategic Quality Assurance Planning: Collaborate with the Technical Lead or Product Development Manager (PDM) to formulate comprehensive test strategies and plans that align with project objectives and timelines. Emphasize the implementation and optimization of testing methodologies to enhance efficiency and effectiveness during testing phases.

• Test Design and Execution Oversight: Oversee the detailed design and execution of tests, concentrating on critical, high-impact testing activities. Ensure extensive coverage and compliance with quality standards while effectively managing resources and timelines.

• Automation and Process Optimization: Advance and broaden automation frameworks and practices. Identify avenues for enhancing testing processes and automation coverage, aiding in the selection and implementation of cutting-edge tools and technologies.

• Cross-functional Collaboration and Communication: Act as the primary QA liaison for development and product management teams, fostering effective communication and collaboration. Ensure that QA processes and results are transparent and integrated into the overall development lifecycle, in line with the strategic direction set by the Technical Lead.

• Quality Advocacy and Project Management: Assist the PDM in project planning and execution, taking responsibility for quality assurance deliverables within projects. Mentor junior team members and advocate for quality standards and best practices throughout the project lifecycle.

• Continuous Improvement and Knowledge Sharing: Engage actively in identifying and implementing continuous improvement initiatives for QA processes and tools, guided strategically by the Technical Lead. Share knowledge and insights with the QA team, contributing to skill enhancement and process refinement.

• Stay Informed on Industry Trends: Keep updated on emerging testing technologies, methodologies, and industry best practices. Share insights with the QA team and the Technical Lead, proposing ways to leverage new findings for enhanced quality and efficiency.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or a related field; equivalent practical experience will be considered.

• At least 5 years of direct experience in software quality assurance, showcasing a successful history in test strategy, planning, execution, and maintenance, including the development of comprehensive test documentation.

• Minimum of 3 years of experience using automated testing tools (e.g., Selenium, TestComplete, QTP/UFT), encompassing advanced scripting for automation and creating custom testing frameworks.

• Demonstrated leadership in Agile and Scrum methodologies, with a robust ability to drive QA strategies within fast-paced development cycles and iterative testing environments.

• Proficiency in continuous integration (CI) and continuous delivery (CD) pipelines, with a solid understanding of optimizing automated tests for speed and efficiency within CI/CD processes.

• Advanced skills in programming languages pertinent to test automation (such as Python, Java, C#), demonstrating the capability to contribute to the code base and automation scripts.

• Extensive knowledge of databases and SQL, with experience conducting complex data validation and interacting with databases for thorough backend testing.

• Skilled in defect tracking tools (e.g., JIRA, Bugzilla), with a proven track record in bug reporting, tracking, and resolution processes.

• Exceptional collaborative abilities, with demonstrated experience working effectively with cross-functional teams, leading quality assurance initiatives, and cultivating a teamwork-oriented environment.

• Excellent communication skills in English, both written and verbal, with the capacity to convey complex technical issues clearly to team members, stakeholders, and customers.

• Highly self-motivated and detail-oriented, with a proven ability to work independently and under pressure, effectively managing multiple projects and priorities.

• Required by the customer:

• Approximately 7 years of hands-on performance engineering or performance testing experience.

• Strong proficiency with JMeter (test plans, correlation, parameterization, assertions, Groovy/Beanshell scripting, distributed load execution).

• Experience in designing and executing load, stress, soak, spike, and scalability tests.

• Ability to define and monitor performance metrics such as latency, throughput, error rates, and concurrency.

• Familiarity with Azure DevOps (ADO) pipelines, automated performance runs, dashboards, reporting, and work-item tracking.

• Good working knowledge of Git for branching, merging, pull requests, and repository management.

• Strong experience with Application Insights, including metrics, logs, dependency tracking, failures, and KQL queries.

• Familiarity with APM tools such as Dynatrace, New Relic, AppDynamics, or Azure Monitor.

• Understanding of REST APIs, JSON payload structures, authentication, and the use of tools like Postman.

• Working knowledge of Azure components such as App Service, APIM, Azure SQL/Cosmos DB, autoscaling, and networking fundamentals.

• Capability to prepare and manage test data, pinpoint environment gaps, and navigate technical dependencies.

• Understanding of root-cause analysis, telemetry review, debugging issues, and identifying bottlenecks across application, service, and database layers.

• Organized and detail-oriented with strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

• Ability to generate clear performance reports with insights, charts, trends, and suggested optimizations.

• Strong collaboration skills to work effectively with developers, architects, DevOps, QA, and product teams.

• Good communication skills to articulate findings, risks, and recommendations to both technical and non-technical partners.

• Self-starter with the capability to take ownership of tasks, work independently, and proactively identify performance risks or improvements.
