This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United Kingdom.
• Develop, maintain, and scale platform-level back-end services to enhance and support our core products.
• Utilize these capabilities to create and implement new features within the core Arbor product suite.
• Take ownership of the successful delivery of high-impact features, significantly contributing to the evolution of Arbor products.
• Lead the development and execution of advanced testing for both new and existing features, ensuring high test coverage and reliability standards.
• Proactively identify, take responsibility for, and resolve critical system bugs and issues by employing advanced problem-solving skills and extensive system knowledge.
• Uphold high standards of code quality through thorough and constructive code reviews, ensuring solutions are well-tested, scalable, and maintainable.
• Write well-architected, efficient, and scalable code by applying leading industry design patterns and methodologies.
• Develop and maintain comprehensive technical documentation and diagrams that promote best practices and facilitate clear communication.
• Collaborate closely with the Engineering Manager, Tech Lead, QA Engineer, and Product Manager to fulfill feature requests.
• Assist the Engineering Manager with interviews, scrum ceremonies, and implementing strategies to enhance product quality and lead time, demonstrating a thorough understanding of the development lifecycle and processes.
• Support the Tech Lead in crafting technical roadmap solution designs, identifying improvement opportunities, prioritizing, and executing technical debt reduction.
• Serve as a role model for technical excellence through code reviews, pair programming, and actively mentoring and coaching mid-level and junior engineers in best practices, promoting knowledge transfer within the team.
• Actively lead and engage in tech talks, workshops, and team-based learning initiatives.
• Proven experience in building back-end services using Python and/or PHP.
• Comfortable working with both technologies over the long term.
• Experience with enterprise solutions and large-scale systems.
• Demonstrated understanding of database technologies (SQL and NoSQL) along with best practices for data modeling and performance optimization.
• Proven track record in managing large technical projects and delivering high-quality, impactful results with minimal supervision.
• Proven experience in designing and writing APIs and services within a service-oriented environment.
• Effectively applies best practices and software engineering principles (e.g., SOLID, DRY).
• Demonstrated knowledge of software best practices, including refactoring, writing clean code, Test-Driven Development (TDD), and Test Automation.
• Familiar with Scrum methodology or other agile development processes.
• Exhibits leadership through collaboration, mentorship, and a proactive approach to problem-solving.
• Excellent written and verbal English communication skills, able to articulate clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• A motivated team player who actively engages in discussions and readily offers support to others.
• Nice to Have: Previous professional experience building back-end services in both PHP and Python.
• Domain experience within the UK Ed-Tech sector.
• PHP: Laminas/Symfony; Python: Fast API.
• Experience in service decomposition.
