This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Delivers strategic and technical guidance in the areas of communicable disease surveillance, case investigation processes, public health reporting, modernization of surveillance, and epidemiological practices.

• Ensures that the capabilities of the CDC National Electronic Disease Surveillance System Base System are in line with client priorities, jurisdictional requirements, and national surveillance standards.

• Works in partnership with state, tribal, local, and territorial (STLT) public health programs, informaticians, architects, product owners, and software development teams to convert epidemiologic needs into technical solutions that enhance disease surveillance and outbreak response.

• Assesses proposed modernization features and suggests improvements that boost the efficiency, usability, and data quality of surveillance workflows for federal and STLT public health users.

• Aids in implementation planning, operational readiness, user acceptance, and change management to ensure the successful integration of modernized surveillance capabilities across various public health jurisdictions.

• Fosters agreement among a diverse array of public health stakeholders, balancing the specific needs of jurisdictions with overarching national standardization objectives.

• Articulates complex epidemiologic concepts to technical teams, epidemiologists, and leaders in public health.

• Engages in workshops, solution demonstrations, and collaborative interactions with CDC and jurisdictional stakeholders.


⛳️ Requirements

• Master's degree and a minimum of 10 years, or a bachelor's degree and a minimum of 12 years, of progressively responsible experience in public health surveillance and epidemiology.

• Experience in supporting CDC and/or STLT public health organizations.

• Background in working on multidisciplinary teams that include public health, informatics, and software development.

• Proven knowledge and experience with national public health surveillance systems (e.g., National Notifiable Diseases Surveillance System [NNDSS]), including event reporting and investigations.

• Familiarity with disease reporting regulations.

• Expertise in surveillance quality assurance, which includes evaluating data completeness, timeliness, validity, consistency, and compliance with national surveillance reporting standards.

• Proficiency in translating epidemiologic and surveillance processes into business requirements, functional specifications, user stories, or system requirements.

• Capacity to successfully undergo a Position of Public Trust Level 5 background investigation.
