This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California.
• Oversee and underwrite both new and renewal Workers’ Compensation accounts.
• Evaluate and analyze submissions, including loss history, experience modifications, payroll classifications, industry risks, and safety measures to select profitable opportunities.
• Establish appropriate pricing, coverage structures, limits, and terms to ensure profitability while remaining competitive in the market.
• Assess essential Workers’ Compensation risk factors, including workplace safety initiatives, claims history, job classifications, multi-state exposures, and return-to-work programs.
• Actively manage a diverse portfolio of Workers’ Compensation business, concentrating on profitability, retention, and growth objectives.
• Negotiate pricing, terms, and conditions with brokers and agents, identifying opportunities for cross-selling into other commercial lines.
• Cultivate, maintain, and enhance robust relationships with brokers, agents, and internal stakeholders to foster new business opportunities and optimize retention.
• Collaborate with claims, loss control, and actuarial teams to provide a thorough underwriting approach and enhance risk selection.
• Deliver precise forecasting, engage in business planning, and contribute to achieving underwriting and financial performance objectives.
• Mentor and guide junior underwriters on Workers’ Compensation underwriting practices, classification accuracy, and regulatory matters.
• Remain informed on trends in the Workers’ Compensation market, regulatory updates (especially for California WC), rate filings, and emerging risks, adjusting underwriting strategies as necessary.
• Promote process improvements and utilize technology to enhance underwriting efficiency and decision-making.
• At least 6 years of dedicated Workers’ Compensation underwriting experience (8 years preferred).
• Strong understanding of California Workers’ Compensation regulations and the rate environment is highly preferred.
• A Bachelor’s degree is required, with preferred fields including Risk Management, Business Administration, Finance, or related areas.
• Active state Property & Casualty license (California preferred).
• CPCU (Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter), ARM, CIC, or other relevant industry designations are preferred.
