This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in District of Columbia, +1 more state.
• Conducts investigations into insurance claims across various environments, which may include retail locations, private or public offices, commercial facilities, hospitality venues, corporate sites, transportation hubs, manufacturing plants, government buildings, educational institutions, clinics, or hospitals; evaluates losses or damages from a range of incidents, including but not limited to adverse weather, earthquakes, fires, vandalism, or accidents.
• May be required to evaluate time-element and builders’ risk losses.
• Utilizes expertise in property and construction, as well as knowledge of the relevant industry or business, typically gained through extensive experience in commercial property loss adjusting, to personally perform property inspections and document claim sites through photographs as needed to illustrate and validate losses or damages, or their absence.
• Gathers essential information from claimants and specialists such as architects, engineers, contractors, police officers, healthcare professionals, accountants, and others through interviews or other techniques to thoroughly and accurately evaluate the extent of the loss.
• Effectively collaborates with and may need to coordinate a diverse team of specialists.
• Works in conjunction with expert witnesses, attorneys, public adjusters, and carrier examiners as necessary to carry out investigations, verify findings, and support evaluations.
• Demonstrates a comprehensive understanding of insurance policies and their interpretation, establishing appropriate loss estimates based on all pertinent information and findings; exhibits familiarity with various types of coverage and loss scenarios.
• Advises on the fair and justified amount the insurance company should disburse for a claim.
• Ensures the precision of collected and reported information and safeguards against fraudulent claims.
• Composes clear, accurate, detailed, and concise reports and letters for insurance carriers, presenting conclusions and recommendations.
• Adheres to established policies, procedures, and processes in information preparation, exercising sound judgment in applying these principles to potentially significant losses or complex situations, and submits reports and documents promptly in accordance with insurer standards and expectations.
• Proficiently utilizes software systems such as Xactimate as necessary to generate accurate estimates.
• Maintains comprehensive and accurate field notes, journal entries, and time and expense records as required.
• Submits reimbursement reports in alignment with organizational and client policies, procedures, and practices, adhering to accepted industry standards.
• Applies knowledge of both time-and-expense and fee-for-service practices, in accordance with the terms of the agreement with the insurer.
• Follows EM policies and practices while applying sound judgment in formulating recommendations and completing evaluations and reports.
• Prepares and delivers presentations and develops special reports for insurance carriers as assigned or required.
• Bachelor’s degree is preferred.
• 2 to 5 years of experience in commercial property loss adjusting; experience with catastrophe claims; extensive experience across various classes and types of business risks, including manufacturing, retail, industrial, residential, and hospitality sectors.
• Ability to comprehend the claims adjudication process with a solid understanding of both commercial and residential construction industries.
• Knowledge of property claim laws.
• Active license, or the ability to quickly obtain such, in the relevant state(s).

• Proficient in analyzing, interpreting, and reporting relevant information (distinguishing essential from non-essential data).

• Capacity to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team.
• Proficient in Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Xactimate, Corelogic, with a willingness to adapt to new technologies.
