This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Create technical designs for reforestation initiatives, incorporating carbon modeling, specific ecological considerations, and disturbance history to enhance both forest establishment success and carbon sequestration results.
• Collaborate with the carbon science team to refine and implement MRV (monitoring, reporting, and verification) methodologies using remote sensing and field inventory techniques.
• Act as the primary field contact and technical leader for contractors, including planting crews, site preparation teams, and other natural resource staff and conservation partners.
• Perform site reconnaissance, GIS analysis, and due diligence evaluations to assess new project opportunities and guide implementation strategies.
• Supervise the execution of planting, forest monitoring, and post-establishment surveys, ensuring high data quality throughout the process.
• Travel regularly to project locations for due diligence, site preparation, planting seasons, and ongoing forest monitoring.
• Integrate and apply the latest research in forest ecology, soil carbon, and climate adaptation to enhance project design standards and species selection continuously.
• Develop and improve our implementation playbook for scaling reforestation efforts across vast areas of degraded land.
• Establish and sustain relationships with federal and state forestry agencies, natural resource departments, and conservation organizations.
• Prepare technical and programmatic reports for senior management, investors, and registry partners, covering project progress, cost analysis, and ecological impact assessments.
• A minimum of 5 years of practical experience in forest management, carbon projects, or ecological research, demonstrating proficiency in both fieldwork and analytical environments.
• Strong quantitative and geospatial abilities, including proficiency in R, Python, or similar analytical tools; hands-on GIS experience for project design and reporting.
• Proven capability to manage contractors, juggle multiple projects, and achieve results within budget and timeline constraints.
• An advanced degree in forestry, forest ecology, natural resource management, or a related field is preferred.
• Knowledge of Appalachian and Southeastern US forest ecosystems, including native hardwood and conifer ecology, disturbance dynamics, and site-level silviculture.
• Experience with forest carbon accounting frameworks, FIA data, remote sensing-based quantification, or growth and yield modeling is highly desirable.
• A clear and confident communicator, able to convey scientific nuances to a wide range of audiences, from field personnel to investors.
• Experience with drone operation and data collection for forest monitoring or site assessment is an advantage.
• Previous work related to mine land reclamation, invasive species management, or post-disturbance reforestation is a plus.
