Senior Project Engineer

📋 Description

• Supervise the technical implementation of large-scale battery storage projects from the design phase through to construction and commissioning.

• Act as the main point of contact for technical inquiries, engineering coordination, and project assistance.

• Oversee technical scopes, engineering timelines, project stakeholders, and deliverables to ensure effective project execution.

• Create technical specifications and assist in vendor assessments, supplier qualifications, testing, and commissioning procedures.

• Aid in procurement and tendering processes by drafting technical requirements, organizing supplier information, maintaining technical Q&A logs, and assessing EPC bidder proposals.

• Manage external engineering consultants and facilitate technical coordination and design review meetings.

• Evaluate and synchronize engineering designs and technical documentation from suppliers, consultants, and contractors, pinpointing gaps and driving timely resolutions.

• Coordinate multidisciplinary engineering requirements across electrical, civil, structural, mechanical, controls, and balance-of-plant systems.

• Review Factory Acceptance Test procedures and reports to ensure they meet project criteria.

• Conduct site inspections to verify that construction and installation activities conform to approved designs, drawings, specifications, and quality standards.

• Provide technical assistance during construction and commissioning phases, aiding in the resolution of design, installation, and project execution challenges.

⛳️ Requirements

• A degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field, or a comparable mix of education and relevant technical experience.

• Minimum of five years of experience in project engineering, systems engineering, or similar technical roles supporting intricate energy, power, or electrical infrastructure projects.

• In-depth understanding of low- and medium-voltage electrical systems, including cable sizing, short-circuit and load-flow analysis, protective-device coordination, and arc-flash studies.

• Proficient in reviewing engineering designs, drawings, technical specifications, and project documentation to identify deficiencies and resolve technical challenges.

• Knowledgeable about grid-interconnection requirements and relevant renewable energy and energy storage codes and standards, including UL, NFPA, IEEE, NETA, NERC, and applicable regional market regulations.

• Experience in supporting procurement and technical evaluations for major electrical equipment such as inverters, transformers, and switchgear.

• Willingness to travel up to 25% within Canada and the United States, including occasional multi-day site visits.

• Familiarity with EMS, SCADA, PPCs, PLCs, IT/OT networks, communication protocols, and related control systems is a plus.

• Understanding of balance-of-plant systems, including UPS systems, fire detection and suppression, HVAC, and auxiliary electrical systems, is advantageous.
