Senior Production Underwriter

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Pennsylvania.

📋 Description

• Underwrite complex new and renewal business profitably by evaluating risks, pricing accurately, ensuring contractual integrity, and managing accounts, all while adhering to delegated authority and regulatory compliance.

• Apply critical thinking skills to evaluate risks and identify potential exposures and controls.

• Set risk pricing that corresponds with identified exposures and controls.

• Establish appropriate terms and conditions to foster a profitable portfolio.

• Document assigned files reflecting the underwriting thought process.

• Act as a subject matter expert to support team members with complex risk assessments.

• Utilize effective portfolio management skills to meet profit and premium objectives aligned with business unit strategies.

• Meet production targets within the designated territory.

• Engage in marketing activities, which involve both in-person and virtual sales interactions with agencies and insured parties.

• Identify and cultivate a robust pipeline of new business opportunities.

• Build and sustain successful relationships with producers and agencies.

• Represent UFG in the marketplace by clearly communicating the company’s underwriting, risk control, and claims capabilities across all business units.

• Collaborate with internal partners, including Business Unit and Line of Business underwriting, Sales and Distribution, Underwriting Center, Underwriting Support, Risk Control, Legal, and Claims, to ensure effective stakeholder management.

• Conduct agency reviews, gathering relevant insights regarding market opportunities.

• Provide management with feedback on the current market landscape, agencies, and competition.

• Mentor and train team members, serving as a resource to address questions, resolve escalated issues, and offer guidance.

• Represent the field underwriter's perspective in significant corporate initiatives and projects.

• Support and contribute to the implementation of technical underwriting training and related content.

⛳️ Requirements

• Preferred four-year college degree.

• Completion of or progress towards AU, CIC, and/or CPCU designations is preferred.

• A minimum of 5 years of preferred experience in commercial lines underwriting.

• Advanced skills in risk evaluation and knowledge of insurance contracts.

• Ability to implement the current underwriting strategy for the assigned territory to make informed underwriting decisions.

• Strong leadership abilities, including mentoring, coaching, and training skills.

• Capacity to thrive in a fast-paced environment while efficiently prioritizing and completing tasks.
