Senior Producer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Japan.

📋 Description

• Take charge of the external product pipeline from the initial idea through to launch and maintenance phases, collaborating with a diverse array of Japanese game developers, including major studios as well as mid-size and boutique teams.

• Work closely with internal game development teams, Quality Assurance (QA), Business Development (BD), Legal, and the Japan Go-To-Market (GTM) team.

• Manage the complete production pipeline for experiences developed externally in Japan, which includes developer pitching and selection, green lighting, project planning, milestone tracking, and ensuring launch readiness.

• Foster long-lasting, trust-based relationships within Japan’s game development community across studios of all sizes and types.

• Identify and seek out partnerships with Japanese intellectual property (IP) holders across anime, manga, character franchises, and entertainment properties.

⛳️ Requirements

• A minimum of 6 years of experience in game production, encompassing full responsibility for project budgets, milestone schedules, payment processing, and quality management from green light through to launch.

• Demonstrated experience in driving the green light and milestone approval processes, coordinating cross-functional stakeholders, facilitating approval meetings, managing pre-meeting alignment, and securing approvals from BD, Finance, Legal, and publishing teams.

• Comprehensive knowledge of game development, able to evaluate the quality and direction of a project at any stage, and providing feedback that is insightful, meaningful, and encouraging without infringing on the developer’s creative control.

• Proven capability to establish a clear destination for a development team, articulating the vision and quality standards while empowering the developer’s Director to determine the approach to achieving those goals.

• Strong judgment and the courage to make difficult decisions when necessary, including recommending a change of Director or replacing a Developer who is underperforming, along with the experience to recognize when such actions are warranted.

• Experience in managing relationships with Japan-based game developers across various studio sizes and types, with a robust understanding of Japan’s game development culture and industry dynamics.

• Experience in managing IP partnerships with Japanese licensors (anime, manga, character, or entertainment franchises), including handling approval processes and creative reviews.

• Strong knowledge of game development disciplines, including engineering, design, art, and QA.

• Exceptional communication and interpersonal abilities, with a talent for building strong, trust-based relationships with both external partners and internal stakeholders.

• Strong problem-solving skills, a keen attention to detail, and the capacity to manage multiple projects concurrently.

• Flexibility to adapt to change and maintain composure in fast-paced, ambiguous situations.

• Native or near-native proficiency in Japanese (both written and verbal) for interactions with developers and IP partners; strong English proficiency for collaboration with US Publishing and internal teams.
