Senior Privacy Counsel

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Serve as the primary legal contact for privacy matters, offering proactive, risk-oriented counsel to Engineering and Product Management teams throughout the development lifecycle of new services and features.

• Deliver specialized legal guidance on the privacy ramifications of new features, including those involving AI, in partnership with the Product Counseling and Regulatory Teams to ensure adherence to emerging AI regulations and ethical standards related to privacy.

• Oversee the execution and documentation of Privacy Impact Assessments (PIAs) and Data Protection Impact Assessments (DPIAs) for new features and services, facilitating legal processes that incorporate privacy requirements early in the development phase, in collaboration with other members of the Privacy Team.

• Ensure compliance of RingCentral services with the changing landscape of global privacy and security regulations.

• Collaborate closely with the Information Security team to assess product security controls, carry out risk analyses, align legal privacy mandates with technical security implementations for all new products, including those related to HIPAA, and ensure that security policies are consistent with personal information protection requirements.

• Create and revise customer-facing materials and resources on the RingCentral Trust Center to enhance transparency for customers and partners.

• Assist in maintaining records of processing activities and documentation for products, including data locations, data transfers, and subprocessors' processing in collaboration with other Privacy Team members.

• Support the incident response initiative by keeping documentation up-to-date in accordance with relevant laws and by representing the privacy team during incident response activities.

• Track legal developments, foster relationships with industry peers, and stay informed about trends and issues globally that may affect RingCentral’s privacy position, templates, and business practices.

• Work alongside and offer guidance to Privacy Team members regarding their roles and responsibilities as needed.

⛳️ Requirements

• J.D. Degree and active membership in good standing with at least one US state bar.

• More than 6 years of legal experience focused on data privacy, ideally combining both law firm and in-house experience.

• Direct experience advising product teams on privacy obligations with the capability to balance business needs and legal requirements.

• Extensive knowledge of major global privacy laws and practical application of these laws in product innovation.

• Awareness of the legal and governance implications associated with the adoption and development of AI.

• Experience addressing product legal issues, including effective communication and collaboration with stakeholders possessing a wide range of legal and technical expertise.

• Demonstrated ability to proactively identify opportunities for streamlining legal processes and enhancing efficiency.

• Strong communication skills and the capacity to establish productive, collaborative relationships with cross-functional partners to provide practical solutions.
