Senior Principal AI Governance Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Virginia.

📋 Description

• Design and execute technical capabilities that support the AI Governance Framework throughout the AI lifecycle.

• Convert AI policies, standards, and requirements into technical controls and automated governance workflows.

• Create tools to identify, register, classify, and evaluate AI use cases.

• Establish governance patterns and reusable components for AI development and deployment pipelines.

• Automate the standards for evidence collection and documentation that support governance, audit, and assurance processes.

• Design technical guardrails and best practices for AI systems, including usage constraints, access patterns, and safeguards.

• Collaborate with Privacy, Legal, Cybersecurity, Global Supply Chain, and other governance entities.

• Develop enterprise visibility into AI systems and their lifecycle, including Shadow AI detection and management.

• Implement continuous monitoring and observability of AI systems.

• Enhance AI governance practices, patterns, and tools across the organization.

• Report to the Manager, Data & AI Governance & Strategy.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or a related field with 8 years of relevant experience, or a Master’s degree with 6 years of relevant experience.

• Proven experience in designing, building, or integrating AI/ML systems or data-driven applications within an enterprise setting.

• Familiarity with data security, privacy, cybersecurity, or related control environments.

• Experience in translating governance, risk, or compliance requirements into technical controls, automated workflows, or monitoring/observability solutions.

• Practical experience in implementing technical guardrails or standards for complex systems.

• Experience collaborating with Privacy, Legal, Cybersecurity, Compliance, or Enterprise Architecture stakeholders.

• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.

• Preferred: experience with enterprise AI Governance Frameworks, reusable governance components, AI/data taxonomies, ongoing monitoring and observability, Shadow AI management, Credo, OneTrust, Databricks, IBM WatsonX or similar platforms, international AI governance, AI safety, model risk management, Responsible AI, regulated industries, AWS, Azure, GCP, MLOps, DevSecOps, and infrastructure-as-code.

• Secret clearance type specified; clearance is not required at the start.

• U.S. Citizenship is required for positions with government clearance and certain restricted roles.
