Senior Platform, Reliability Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Germany.

📋 Description

• Take ownership of the architectural design for shared infrastructure services.

• Manage API gateway and ingress, persistent storage, secrets and identity infrastructure, edge security/WAF, and observability services.

• Investigate systems that are only partially documented and address known vulnerabilities.

• Assess aging components using a build-versus-buy analysis.

• Determine which legacy components should be repaired, replaced, or phased out.

• Design and implement an on-call process.

• Develop runbooks for handling platform and infrastructure incidents.

• Enhance observability practices through distributed tracing, SLOs/SLIs, and effective dashboards.

• Operate and expand on Prometheus, Grafana, Alloy, and OpenTelemetry.

• Participate in system design reviews and apply infrastructure principles to services.

• Provide guidance to multiple teams regarding shared infrastructure services.

• Maintain consistent documentation and distribution of technical knowledge.

• Minimize single points of failure across the platform and address identified risks.

• Occasionally travel for data center visits and team offsite events.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 7 years of experience in platform, infrastructure, or SRE roles.

• Ideally, possess end-to-end responsibility for a private cloud or IaaS platform.

• Hands-on experience with distributed storage systems, particularly Ceph.

• Experience with Kubernetes persistent storage, Longhorn, or similar solutions.

• Familiarity with operating API gateways and ingress, such as Kong or Nginx Ingress.

• Skills in debugging CORS and rate limiting.

• Experience in CDN/edge security, DDoS mitigation, WAF configuration, and firewall rule design.

• Strong foundational knowledge of load balancing, caching, sharding/replication, consistency models, and message queues.

• Experience in designing or enhancing observability through tracing, metrics, and SLOs/SLIs is preferred.

• Familiarity with Vault, Keycloak, NATS, on-call processes, and incident runbooks is a plus.

• Ability to maintain composure while working with complex and under-documented systems.

• Capability to serve as a technical resource across teams and share/document knowledge effectively.

• Professional fluency in English.

• German language skills, CKA/CKS or Ceph certifications, and experience with Proxmox/OpenStack are advantageous.
