This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Maintain and enhance the foundations of service provisioning: Ensure the health of Backstage-based service templating for greenfield applications. Contribute to the expansion of our service catalog layer, which is a YAML-backed, AI-enhanced registry accessible via REST API and MCP, designed for queries by both engineers and autonomous systems.
• Develop and scale agent golden paths: Transform our agentic infrastructure from experimental phases to standard architecture. Treat AI agents as primary platform users by defining deployment standards and building the necessary guardrails that enable teams to deploy agents safely and consistently.
• Promote service mesh adoption: Spearhead the implementation and standardization of Istio throughout our fleet, addressing mTLS, traffic shaping, and policy enforcement, while creating the golden paths and runbooks that facilitate straightforward mesh adoption for product teams.
• Set platform guardrails: Establish scorecards/insights and CI policies (linting, contract checks, security baselines) that provide signals and simplify the process for teams to achieve “green” status.
• Manage core platform components: Design, build, and operate Kubernetes, Infrastructure as Code (e.g., Terraform), CI/CD pipelines, service templates, runtime addons, and shared libraries with SLOs and comprehensive runbooks.
• Collaborate closely with product teams: Work alongside a rotating selection of squads to co-design golden paths, gather feedback, eliminate friction, and assess adoption and impact.
• Lead migrations and deprecations: Strategize and implement multi-repo changes (API versioning, SDK updates, framework/runtime upgrades) with clear communication, documentation, and secure rollout strategies.
• Measure critical metrics: Instrument developer experience and delivery metrics; leverage data to prioritize and refine the platform roadmap.
• A minimum of 5 years’ experience as a DevOps, SRE, Software, or Platform Engineer, focusing on building and operating services and related tooling.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field; or equivalent years of experience.
• Hands-on production experience with Backstage (or a comparable developer portal), service catalogs, and software templates.
• Expertise in cloud and container technologies (e.g., AWS, Kubernetes, Istio), infrastructure as code (Terraform or similar), and CI/CD processes.
• Strong programming skills in at least one of the following: TypeScript/JavaScript, Go, Java, or Python, along with familiarity with multi-repo change management.
• A product-oriented mindset with a focus on developer needs; you actively seek feedback, streamline workflows, and encourage adoption.
• Proven experience in facilitating AI-assisted software delivery at scale, constructing agent-ready platform workflows, implementing policy-as-code guardrails, and developing automated review/remediation pipelines for AI-generated code, particularly in infrastructure as code.
• Competitive salary and equity compensation for full-time positions.
• Unlimited paid time off, company holidays, and quarterly mental health days.
• Comprehensive health benefits, including medical, dental, vision, and parental leave.
• Employee Stock Purchase Program (ESPP).
• 401k benefits with employer matching contributions.
• Offsite team retreats.
