Senior Platform Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Create and develop the platform that Burq will use for scaling over the coming years.

• Take ownership of the AWS account division — organizing production, staging, and development into distinct isolated environments.

• Lead the migration of the Aurora DB production with assistance from our infrastructure advisor.

• Oversee and enhance our ECS Fargate services, RDS clusters, ElastiCache, SQS queues, and ALB configurations.

• Manage Terraform — utilizing infrastructure as code rather than relying on click-ops.

• Strengthen IAM — establishing developer permission sets, production access controls, and enforcing least-privilege principles.

• Conduct audits and secure public S3 buckets.

• Activate AWS Config and Security Hub across all accounts.

• Lead the maintenance of SOC 2 Type 2 readiness in collaboration with Sprinto.

• Organize the external penetration testing schedule.

• Enhance our GitHub Actions CI/CD pipelines — focusing on build times, test reliability, and deployment speed.

• Develop PR stack environments to allow product teams to test in isolation.

• Propel the local development stack initiative — transitioning to Docker Compose-based environments that replace shared pre-production.

• Incorporate AI-assisted testing into the CI pipeline.

• Manage CloudWatch dashboards covering ALB, ECS, RDS, ElastiCache, SQS, and target group health.

• Facilitate post-incident reviews, ensuring each incident results in a runbook entry.

• Collaborate with product teams to allocate platform work as a regular sprint task — rather than maintaining a separate queue.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 5 years of engineering experience with a minimum of 3 years dedicated to infrastructure and platform engineering.

• Extensive knowledge of AWS — including ECS, RDS, S3, IAM, CloudWatch, SQS, Lambda, and account architecture.

• Proficient in Terraform — capable of writing infrastructure as code and understanding its significance.

• Strong background in CI/CD — familiar with GitHub Actions, deployment pipelines, and environment management.

• Security-focused — adept at securing systems without causing friction for product engineers.

• Experience with observability tools — such as CloudWatch, Datadog, or similar platforms.
