Senior Data Platform Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Develop, sustain, and enhance the data infrastructure essential for Medium's product and engineering teams.

• Take ownership of the data infrastructure's reliability: Recognize potential risks, implement improved observability, and initiate enhancements to minimize repetitive tasks.

• Adopt a product-oriented approach to platform management, collaborating with engineers and stakeholders across various teams.

• Contribute to the long-term vision of the platform, transitioning outdated systems to modern alternatives.

• Create and review Python-based tools for orchestrating pipelines, ensuring data quality, and automating infrastructure.

• Implement DevOps and Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) best practices.

• Guide teammates and enhance collective standards related to reliability, documentation, and platform user experience.

• Participate in Medium's biannual in-person offsite gatherings.

⛳️ Requirements

• 4 to 6 years of experience in data engineering, backend engineering, DevOps, or SRE.

• Strong proficiency in Python.

• Comfortable working across the entire stack with data pipeline tools (such as Snowflake, dbt, Spark, etc.), cloud infrastructure (AWS), and backend service development.

• Approach legacy systems with a sense of curiosity.

• Demonstrate concern for downstream users and recognize the qualities of an exceptional platform.

• Familiarity with Snowflake, Kubernetes, data observability tools, or machine learning infrastructure is advantageous.

• Possess strong instincts about systems, with adaptability and a keen desire to learn.

• Advocate for your approach while remaining receptive to alternative ideas.
