This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United Kingdom.
• Contribute to the improvement of our current Perl codebase that powers our network automation systems and internal tools. Develop new code using a modular methodology with automated testing and reporting on code coverage.
• Identify and minimize technical debt, enhance performance and reliability, and engage in scaling decisions throughout our platform.
• Construct and maintain secure, scalable RESTful APIs. Ensure compliance with API standards, versioning practices, and monitoring instrumentation.
• Play a crucial role in our release process by creating reliable tests, rigorously reviewing code, and contributing to enhancements in the CI/CD pipeline.
• Assist in the development of junior engineers through pairing, thoughtful code reviews, and informal coaching. Promote sound design principles and cultivate a culture of continuous technical learning.
• Over 5 years of software development experience with Perl and frameworks such as Mojolicious.
• Experience with relational databases using SQL (preferably PostgreSQL).
• Working knowledge of distributed datastores and NoSQL (Cassandra or similar).
• Demonstrated experience in constructing backend services and tools within web application ecosystems.
• Capability to act as a technical lead for small projects (typically involving up to 4 developers), providing architectural and design insight.
• Exceptional collaboration and communication skills with both technical and non-technical audiences.
• Strong logical reasoning abilities and a tendency to ask pertinent questions, with the capacity to articulate complex concepts clearly and succinctly.
• Committed to automating as much as possible to focus on broader objectives.
• A capacity for logical reasoning, appropriate questioning, and the clear and concise presentation of technical information.
• Experience in maintaining scalable, versioned, secure REST APIs.
• Familiarity with networking concepts such as IP routing and MPLS.
