This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in New Hampshire, +1 more state.
β’ Evaluates and makes decisions regarding intricate residential and consumer loan applications, utilizing expert knowledge of portfolio and investor guidelines, internal policies, and regulatory frameworks.
β’ Applies advanced credit judgment to balance risk management with prudent lending decisions while offering support to internal team members throughout the loan process.
β’ Acts as a resource for junior underwriters and lending personnel by providing mentorship, training, and conducting second-level reviews as necessary.
β’ Reviews and underwrites mortgage and consumer loan applications, including complex transactions, within delegated authority, and analyzes credit, income, assets, appraisals, title work, and supporting documentation to assess loan eligibility.
β’ Ensures adherence to internal lending policies, investor and Government-Sponsored Enterprise (GSE) guidelines, applicable federal and state regulations, bank policies, and Bank Secrecy Act (BSA) requirements; including validating transactions and account balances, along with all related consumer regulatory demands.
β’ Issues loan approvals, suspensions, or denials with clear supporting conditions or rationale.
β’ Maintains up-to-date knowledge of underwriting guidelines, regulatory requirements, and industry trends to facilitate sound lending decisions and effective risk management.
β’ Collaborates with loan officers, processors, and other team members to address underwriting issues and ensure timely loan decisions while maintaining accurate, complete, and audit-ready loan documentation.
β’ Responds to internal and external audits and quality control reviews by supplying necessary documentation and information.
β’ Supports the ongoing improvement of underwriting processes by identifying opportunities to enhance efficiency and effectiveness.
β’ Fosters a strong risk and compliance culture by adhering to policies, identifying potential issues, and endorsing consistent risk mitigation practices.
β’ Stays informed on Bank products, services, policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements through continuous training and practical application in daily tasks.
β’ A high school diploma or equivalent is required; an Associate's or Bachelor's degree in business, finance, or a related field is preferred.
β’ FHA Direct Endorsement (DE) and/or VA Staff Appraisal Reviewer/Lender Appraisal Processing Program (SAR/LAPP) certification is preferred.
β’ A minimum of 7 years of mortgage underwriting experience with robust knowledge of agency and investor guidelines, residential and consumer loan products, banking regulations, lending compliance, and credit, income, asset, and collateral analysis.
β’ Strong analytical, problem-solving, decision-making, and communication skills, with the capacity to elucidate underwriting decisions, mentor underwriting and lending staff, and maintain a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
β’ Proficient in loan origination systems (LOS), automated underwriting systems (AUS), and Microsoft Office applications.
β’ Ability to manage multiple priorities, adapt to evolving business needs, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced production environment.
