📋 Description

• Design, develop, and enhance the Migrations Platform — a critical PHP application — ensuring it remains reliable, high-performing, and scalable as we onboard an increasing number of schools.

• Assume responsibility for the platform's established SLAs, including migration success rates, throughput, and turnaround times. Identify and implement enhancements that elevate reliability and quality standards.

• Manage services from design through to production with comprehensive ownership. Ensure they are observable, equipped with the necessary logs, dashboards, and alerts for quick detection and response to issues.

• Minimize operational burdens for the Migration Operations team by automating repetitive tasks, validations, and data integrity checks.

• Support migration windows during weekends and school holidays. Be adaptable with working hours during peak onboarding periods to ensure successful customer launches.

• Apply and maintain coding standards, produce well-tested and reusable code, and engage with the architecture community to share best practices. Ensure services comply with production readiness standards.

• Provide accurate estimates and feasibility assessments on technical work. Deliver iteratively, contribute to release planning, and participate in post-release evaluations.

• Lead investigations into failed or delayed migrations, conduct root cause analysis, and implement follow-up improvements to prevent recurrence.

• Support and mentor fellow engineers, including Migration Operations Engineers, through code reviews, collaborative programming, and constructive feedback. Share knowledge generously within the team.

• Collaborate closely with Onboarding, Support, Product Managers, and other engineering teams to coordinate timelines, manage customer expectations, and align technical delivery with the broader onboarding strategy. Clearly communicate risks, blockers, and status updates to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.


⛳️ Requirements

• Significant software engineering experience with production systems, preferably including data migration, ETL, or other data-intensive workloads.

• Strong hands-on experience in building and maintaining PHP applications at scale; familiarity with frameworks like Symfony is a significant advantage.

• Solid understanding of relational databases (e.g., MSSQL, MySQL, AWS Aurora), SQL, data validation, and data integrity practices.

• Practical expertise with AWS and distributed cloud architectures.

• Strong proficiency in Python, Bash, or a similar language for automation, tooling, and data manipulation.

• Hands-on experience with monitoring and observability platforms (e.g., DataDog, Prometheus, or equivalent), along with incident and problem management practices.

• Solid understanding of distributed systems, batch and asynchronous processing, queues, and resilience patterns.

• Practical experience in creating and maintaining CI/CD pipelines for automated deployments.

• Experience in defining SLAs, tracking operational metrics, and driving enhancements in service reliability.

• Experience in supporting and mentoring fellow engineers through code reviews, collaborative programming, and feedback.

• Willingness to be flexible with working hours to support migration cycles that often extend over weekends and school holidays.

• Experience with agentic AI technology, or an interest in enhancing productivity through new tools, including agentic AI.
