This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Massachusetts, +1 more state.
• Oversee the medical science writing function for Medtronic's Surgical Medical Evidence team.
• Manage the development of scientific publications and clinical communications across the Surgical evidence portfolio.
• Set scientific writing standards, scalable governance processes, and best practices for publication.
• Ensure compliant sharing of clinical evidence that aligns with clinical and business priorities.
• Supervise the creation of manuscripts, abstracts, posters, congress presentations, and other scientific materials.
• Lead strategies for publication and scientific communication, including identifying evidence gaps and prioritizing publication opportunities.
• Coordinate with Medical Affairs, Clinical Research, HEOR, Regulatory Affairs, and Marketing on communicating clinical evidence.
• Direct therapy or product cross-functional evidence councils to prioritize evidence generation and scientific deliverables.
• Manage, mentor, and develop medical science writers/specialists and program managers directly.
• Recruit, onboard, manage performance, and assist in career development.
• Allocate resources and oversee deliverables, publication plans, and timelines.
• Support the interpretation and communication of clinical data for cross-functional decision-making.
• Manage internal review workflows and publication processes.
• Collaborate with key opinion leaders, investigators, and healthcare professionals.
• Build a high-performing team focused on the dissemination of evidence.
• A Bachelor's degree is required, along with a minimum of 7 years of experience in medical writing, scientific communications, or clinical research, including at least 5 years of managerial experience; alternatively, an advanced degree with a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience and 5+ years of managerial experience is acceptable.
• Experience in leadership, mentoring, or team management within the medical device or pharmaceutical sector.
• Preferred experience managing publications or professionals in scientific communication directly.
• Proven experience in contributing to publication strategy and planning for evidence dissemination.
• Experience in developing peer-reviewed manuscripts and scientific congress presentations.
• Direct experience working with key opinion leaders and healthcare professionals.
• Strong knowledge of clinical research methodologies and strategies for evidence generation.
• Experience in translating clinical and outcomes data for clinicians, regulators, and payers.
• Familiarity with ICMJE and GPP publication standards and guidelines.
• Strong skills in cross-functional collaboration and stakeholder management.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, matrixed environment.
• CMPP or AMWA essential skills certification is preferred.
• Exceptional written, verbal, and interpersonal communication abilities.
• For degrees obtained outside the United States, a degree satisfying 8 C.F.R. § 214.2(h)(4)(iii)(A) is necessary.
• Unrestricted U.S. work authorization is required at the time of hire and throughout employment for positions below the Principal level.
