This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Identify, develop, and sustain long-term strategic scientific partnerships with Key Opinion Leaders (KOLs) while proactively communicating with internal stakeholders to ensure that research, scientific, and clinical interests are effectively conveyed.
• Deliver unbiased presentations and medical information in response to unsolicited inquiries in academic, community, and healthcare provider environments as appropriate.
• Create and implement engagement plans for the US territory and KOLs to facilitate high-quality, impactful scientific engagement and education.
• Collect and lead the reporting of medical and clinical insights that enhance Ultragenyx’s key medical strategies, plans, and future research and development initiatives.
• Evaluate KOLs’ scientific perspectives on Ultragenyx’s medical and scientific stances regarding rare diseases and develop appropriate action plans.
• Provide field-based medical affairs support for clinical research initiatives endorsed by the company, including Investigator Initiated Trials and other collaborative research efforts.
• Work in collaboration with the Clinical Operations team to improve patient enrollment in company-sponsored clinical trials by identifying suitable clinical trial sites and engaging with investigators in ongoing studies.
• Lead internal projects and initiatives while representing medical affairs across various functions.
• Represent Ultragenyx at scientific conferences and meetings, engaging with KOLs and gathering scientific data insights. Provide leadership in planning impactful medical engagement activities and delivering timely post-congress insights and competitive intelligence reporting.
• Collaborate cross-functionally in the assigned region to enhance the customer experience.
• Ensure all activities comply with company policies and procedures, including documenting all relevant MSL activities in the CRM platform, managing the travel and expense budget, and completing administrative reports, projects, and required training accurately and punctually.
• Terminal degree (e.g., MD, PhD, PharmD) in a clinical or medical specialty with a minimum of 2 years of prior experience as a Medical Science Liaison (MSL).
• Candidates holding an advanced degree (e.g., MS, MSN, MPH) and possessing at least 5 years of MSL experience in a related therapeutic area will also be considered.
• Preferred candidates will demonstrate technical and scientific expertise in rare diseases.
• Proven excellence in delivering impactful clinical and scientific presentations to expert audiences in both virtual and live environments.
• Strong comprehension of the healthcare delivery system and its implications for patient care and regional medical services.
• Knowledge of FDA regulations concerning product promotion, scientific exchange, and healthcare practitioner guidelines is essential.
• Strategic thinker who leverages an understanding of general business practices, industry trends, medical practices, and Ultragenyx's strategic goals to identify field opportunities.
• Ability to connect and collaborate with a diverse range of individuals to achieve desired outcomes.
• Capable of working independently to organize and prioritize personal work schedules.
• Proficient in building and leveraging strategic internal and external relationships to identify potential opportunities and partnerships that enhance patient care quality.
• Responsible for managing individual territory effectively.
• Consistently meets commitments by prioritizing time, actions, and resources to achieve objectives.
• Willingness to travel approximately 60% within the region and nationally; overnight travel may be required as necessary.
