Senior Medical Science Liaison, Inborn Errors of Metabolism

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in District of Columbia, +5 more states.

📋 Description

• Deliver balanced presentations and provide medical information in response to unsolicited inquiries in academic, community, and healthcare provider environments as appropriate.

• Create and implement US territory and KOL engagement strategies to facilitate high-quality, impactful scientific interactions and educational initiatives.

• Collect and lead the reporting of medical and clinical insights to enhance Ultragenyx’s key medical stances, strategies, and future research and development efforts.

• Assess KOLs' scientific perspectives on Ultragenyx’s medical and scientific positions regarding rare diseases and execute suitable action plans.

• Offer field-based medical affairs support for clinical research initiatives backed by the company, including Investigator Initiated Trials and other collaborative research endeavors.

• Work collaboratively with the Clinical Operations team to boost patient enrollment in company-sponsored clinical trials by identifying suitable clinical trial sites and engaging with investigators involved in ongoing studies.

• Lead internal projects and initiatives while representing medical affairs across different functions.

• Represent Ultragenyx at scientific conferences and meetings, engaging with KOLs and gathering scientific data insights. Provide leadership in planning impactful medical engagement activities and delivering timely post-congress insights and competitive intelligence reports.

• Collaborate cross-functionally within the assigned region to enhance customer experiences.

• Ensure all activities comply with company policies and procedures, including documenting all relevant MSL activities in the CRM platform, managing travel and expense budgets, and completing administrative reports, projects, and required training accurately and promptly.

⛳️ Requirements

• A terminal degree (e.g., MD, PhD, PharmD) in a clinical or medical specialty with a minimum of 2 years of prior experience as an MSL.

• Candidates with an advanced degree (e.g., MS, MSN, MPH) and at least 5 years of MSL experience in a related therapeutic area will also be considered.

• Preferred candidates should have demonstrated technical and scientific expertise in rare diseases.

• Required experience in effectively presenting clinical and scientific information in both virtual and in-person settings.

• Exceptional knowledge of the healthcare delivery system and its influence on patient care and regional medical practices.

• Familiarity with interpreting and adhering to FDA regulations regarding product promotion, scientific exchange, and healthcare practitioner guidelines.

• Strategic thinker who leverages knowledge of general business practices, industry standards, medical practices, and Ultragenyx's strategic goals to identify field opportunities.

• Ability to connect and collaborate with a diverse range of individuals to achieve results.

• Capable of working independently to organize and prioritize one’s own work schedule effectively.

• Skilled in building and leveraging strategic internal and external relationships to identify potential opportunities and partnerships that enhance value and improve patient care quality.

• Accountable for managing individual territory effectively.

• Consistently delivers on commitments, prioritizes time, actions, and resources to meet objectives.

• Approximately 60% travel within the region and nationally is required; overnight travel may be necessary as needed.
