Senior Manager, Government Affairs

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Texas.

📋 Description

• Oversee, assess, and formulate the company's stance on legislation impacting the electricity sector in the ERCOT and SPP regions.

• Collaborate effectively with trade associations, industry peers, and other allied stakeholders to promote common objectives.

• Direct contract lobbyists operating at the state level, providing them with guidance and necessary materials.

• Inform policymakers about the company's array of wind, solar, and storage initiatives, as well as industry perspectives on significant issues currently or potentially before the legislature.

• Deliver real-time updates and forecasts on legislative threats and prospects to senior leadership, development teams, and asset management.

• Track and evaluate regulatory activities at the Electric Reliability Organization of Texas (ERCOT), the Public Utilities Commission of Texas (PUCT), and other regulatory entities in SPP states.

• Collaborate with internal subject matter experts to aid in project commercialization and implementation.

• Cultivate and sustain high-level relationships with ERCOT and PUCT personnel.

• Ensure representation in relevant ERCOT working groups and stakeholder committees while identifying advocacy opportunities.

• Oversee external legal counsel and regulatory consultants.


⛳️ Requirements

• A bachelor’s degree in public policy, political science, energy policy, environmental studies, engineering, or another relevant field of study.

• A minimum of 5 years of progressively responsible experience in government affairs, regulatory affairs, or energy policy, with at least 3 years of direct experience in the Texas legislature and/or ERCOT.

• Strong preference for candidates with experience in the renewable energy sector and/or electric utility industry.

• Proven understanding of ERCOT market design issues.

• Established relationships with policymakers and regulatory staff.

• Outstanding written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to craft persuasive technical comments and/or testimony.

• Proven capability to manage intricate legislative and regulatory processes, collaborate with stakeholders, build coalitions, and create engagement strategies.

• Familiarity with the renewable energy project development process, including economics and timelines.

• Experience with political contributions and management of Political Action Committees is also an advantage.
