This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Canada.
• Create and oversee a risk-rated, rolling 18-month roadmap for all Controllers programs, prioritizing control risk, efficiency impact, and strategic importance rather than merely addressing the loudest issues of the current quarter.
• Establish a consistent prioritization framework that quantifies the costs of inaction, including control exposure, manual effort, audit risk, and headcount expenses, ensuring investment decisions are based on concrete data.
• Present the roadmap and investment proposals to Finance leadership, clearly articulating viewpoints and trade-offs.
• Organize and document discovery sessions with Controller teams to identify operational debts, process gaps, and control deficiencies.
• Assess operational debts within Controllers and design scalable workflows that incorporate embedded controls and automation.
• Manage the complete program delivery process from scoping to go-live, leading requirements gathering, user acceptance testing (UAT), operational rollout, training, and change management to ensure full realization of benefits.
• Act as the Finance-side liaison for Enterprise Systems (IT), consolidating and prioritizing the Controller's demands into structured, clearly defined requests for Engineering and IT.
• Champion and secure Engineering and IT resources for Finance-critical programs, developing the business case, managing relationships, and ensuring accountable delivery.
• Identify automation and AI opportunities within Finance workflows and collaborate with our internal AI Builder to design and implement solutions.
• Keep FP&A and Treasury counterparts updated on roadmap advancements and investment priorities, ensuring cohesive alignment across shared systems infrastructure.
• Serve as the primary Finance owner for Controllers systems, including NetSuite, Workiva, FloQast, Zip, Float, and AuditBoard, ensuring they are well-governed, purpose-fit, and continuously improved.
• Function as the escalation point for intricate Finance systems issues, providing guidance and resolution.
• Extensive Finance domain expertise — you possess a thorough understanding of AP, procurement, month-end close, reporting, and tax processes, along with the implications of system changes on controls and financials.
• Over 7 years of experience in Finance systems, Finance operations, or program delivery — preferably in a fintech or high-growth context with robust governance, audit readiness, and institutional reporting standards.
• Practical experience with enterprise Finance systems; familiarity with NetSuite, Workiva, FloQast, or similar platforms is highly beneficial. You don’t need to be a developer — you should be knowledgeable enough to pose the right questions and hold IT accountable.
• Capability to build cases that Finance leadership can rigorously assess, ensuring you enter every meeting with a recommendation rather than merely a status update.
• Proven track record of building trust across Finance teams — colleagues seek your expertise because they regard you as someone who comprehends their challenges and can assist in solving pertinent problems.
• Outstanding communication skills — you can convert operational details into executive-level presentations, strategies, and discussions on ROI and trade-offs.
• CPA, PMP, or equivalent professional designation is advantageous, but not mandatory.
• Comprehensive health benefits and life insurance
• Long-term group savings plan with employer matching, available through Wealthsimple for Business
• 20 vacation days, 4 wellness days, and unlimited sick and mental health days each year
• 90 days away: the opportunity to work outside Canada for up to 90 days annually
• Employee resource groups, including Rainbow (2SLGBTQ), Women of WS, and Black at WS
