This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Arizona, +2 more states.
• Deliver subject matter expertise on cutting-edge technologies, including lithium-ion batteries, high voltage systems, automation/robotics, and innovative materials, along with their EHS-related risks.
• Act as the main EHS contact for Product Safety and the Office of the Chief Engineer.
• Collaborate with Engineering Lab Management to promote safe working practices.
• Coordinate EHS assistance for Failure Review Boards, which includes providing independent safety oversight, contributing to root cause analysis, and suggesting corrective actions.
• Facilitate EHS support for Engineering Safety Review Boards.
• Assist with the EHS Management of Change process concerning new processes, equipment, test setups, materials, and facility alterations.
• Create and support EHS bulletins, safety communications, and lessons learned from incidents.
• Aid in the implementation of cross-site and cross-functional EHS programs.
• Conduct or assist with investigations related to emerging technologies and develop corrective actions.
• Advise engineering teams on hazard analyses, risk assessments, and mitigation strategies.
• Support internal audits, customer audits, and corporate evaluations.
• Mentor EHS and engineering staff on safety engineering principles, control methods, and regulatory interpretations.
• Travel domestically and internationally approximately 25% of the time.
• A university degree or equivalent experience with a minimum of 10 years in relevant fields, or an advanced degree in a related area with at least 7 years of experience.
• At least 10 years of combined experience in EHS, systems engineering, product safety, or engineering operations.
• U.S. citizenship is mandatory.
• Capability to obtain and retain a U.S. government security clearance.
• An active and existing DoD Secret security clearance is required from day one.
• Experience in supporting or participating in Engineering Safety Boards, Failure Review Boards, or design reviews.
• Background in supporting engineering teams, laboratories, or product development groups.
• Familiarity with OSHA 1910, NFPA standards, ANSI, and relevant engineering safety standards.
• Experience in performing and reviewing hazard analyses, FMEAs, fault trees, or analogous engineering risk assessment methods.
• Experience with high-hazard technologies like high voltage, energy storage systems, automation/robotics, or energetic systems.
• Experience in developing Management of Change processes or acting as an MOC reviewer.
• Proven ability in creating incident communications, safety bulletins, and technical safety advisories.
• Strong project management capabilities.
• Ability to handle multiple projects concurrently.
• Skills to influence cross-functional technical teams without direct authority.
• Preferred experience with Li-ion battery system safety, robotics safety, high-voltage electrical safety, or automation/AI-driven test systems.
