This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Arizona, +12 more states.
• Lead, mentor, and develop a team of Data Engineers.
• Define and implement the long-term vision for Alto’s data platform.
• Collaborate with Product, Engineering, Data Science, Analytics, Finance, and Enterprise teams on impactful data initiatives.
• Establish career development paths, performance metrics, and recruitment strategies.
• Convert business requirements into scalable data solutions.
• Oversee the design and progression of data architecture encompassing ingestion, transformation, orchestration, storage, and serving layers.
• Manage and maintain Fivetran, Airflow, dbt, Snowflake, and Looker.
• Provide a governed platform foundation for analytics transformation logic in dbt.
• Ensure the data platform supports analytics, operational processes, experimentation, and machine learning.
• Maintain pipeline reliability, performance, and freshness through observability, lineage tracking, testing, and operational rigor.
• Scale the platform to accommodate increasing data volume, near-real-time use cases, and regulatory complexities.
• Enhance data governance, access control, privacy, and compliance.
• Define and operationalize SLAs and platform reliability metrics.
• Improve data quality monitoring and incident management.
• Optimize infrastructure performance and cost efficiency.
• Assess emerging technologies for streaming, near-real-time analytics, and scalable AI workflows.
• Facilitate experimentation and measurement with reliable production-grade pipelines.
• Collaborate with Data Science and Machine Learning teams regarding model and feature complexities.
• Promote the adoption of tools and practices that enhance developer velocity and reduce operational burdens.
• Foster data ownership, discoverability, and accountability.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field.
• Over 10 years of experience in data engineering, platform engineering, or similar data infrastructure roles.
• At least 5 years of experience leading and scaling high-performing technical teams.
• Proven experience in architecting, operating, and expanding modern cloud-based data platforms.
• Strong expertise in data modeling principles, ELT architectures, and orchestrating production-grade pipelines.
• Practical experience with AWS, GCP, or Azure.
• Experience in defining SLAs, implementing observability and data quality frameworks, and leading incident response and postmortems for production data systems.
• Background in high-growth, fast-paced technology organizations.
• Excellent communication skills with the ability to influence both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Experience with data platforms in healthcare, pharmacy, fintech, or other regulated sectors.
• Familiarity with HIPAA and healthcare data privacy regulations.
• Experience supporting machine learning pipelines, feature engineering workflows, or feature stores.
• Familiarity with streaming architectures like Kafka, Kinesis, or Pub/Sub, and real-time analytics.
• Exposure to experimentation platforms and product analytics ecosystems.
• Strong SQL and programming skills, with proficiency in languages such as Python or Scala.
• Experience implementing data contracts and data product frameworks across domain teams.
• Must reside in one of the specified states.
