This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Ohio.
• Deliver strategic direction for the C&I collections department, creating and executing organizational priorities, building a high-performance team, and nurturing a culture centered on accountability, continuous improvement, and customer-focused solutions.
• Develop and refine the collections strategy for a complex C&I gas and power portfolio, aiming to minimize aged receivables, decrease bad debt write-offs, and enhance cash recovery across a high-volume C&I gas and power portfolio.
• Establish and track key performance indicators such as DSO, bad debt rate, effectiveness index (CEI), and promise-to-pay compliance, presenting results and offering strategic recommendations to senior leadership.
• Act as the function leader and strategic collaborator with Credit, Sales, Operations, Finance, and Legal teams to create solutions for billing disputes, negotiate payment arrangements, and escalate accounts for third-party collections or legal action as necessary.
• Formulate and implement the technology and automation strategy for Collections by utilizing technology platforms, automation tools, and AI-driven analytics to prioritize collection activities, forecast delinquency risks, and tailor outreach approaches.
• Supervise account segmentation and tiered collection strategies customized to the size, risk profile, and payment history of C&I customers.
• Ensure adherence to relevant regulations, tariffs, and utility commission guidelines that govern commercial account collections and service terminations.
• Manage partnerships with external collection agencies, skip-tracing services, and legal counsel; assess vendor performance and negotiate contracts as required.
• Lead ongoing improvement initiatives by promoting process standardization, operational excellence, training programs, and quality assurance reviews to enhance effectiveness and customer outcomes.
• Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Business Administration, Accounting, or a related discipline; equivalent professional experience will be accepted.
• At least 10 years of experience in B2B collections management within a fast-paced, high-volume setting, including a minimum of 2 years in a leadership or supervisory capacity.
• Proven experience managing commercial and/or industrial account portfolios; experience in the energy retail or utility sector is highly desirable.
• Strong understanding of accounts receivable processes, credit risk evaluation, debt recovery methodologies, and regulatory requirements in deregulated energy markets.
• Demonstrated capability to analyze collections data, identify trends, and convert insights into actionable strategies that effectively reduce bad debt.
• Successful history of implementing or optimizing collections technology platforms (CRM, ERP, collections management systems) to enhance efficiency.
• Proficiency in AI and data analytics tools for predictive modeling, workflow automation, and customer segmentation; eagerness to embrace emerging technologies to improve collections performance.
• Exceptional interpersonal, negotiation, and communication skills; ability to engage diplomatically with customers while upholding strict collection standards.
