Senior Manager, Analytics & BI Engineering

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Arizona, +10 more states.

📋 Description

• Take ownership of the semantic layer as the engineered source for enterprise metric definitions.

• Implement and technically validate enterprise metric definitions across various reporting assets.

• Address and resolve conflicts in metric definitions across different brands and business functions.

• Ensure the quality of metrics and reports, maintaining consistency in definitions and certification criteria.

• Guarantee the accuracy, performance, and sustainability of reporting assets.

• Establish and enforce engineering standards for metrics and reporting processes.

• Manage workspace structure, content organization, dataset certification and promotion, access, and security.

• Oversee and mentor analytics engineers, BI developers, and analysts.

• Define metrics engineering as a recognized organizational craft with established standards and career pathways.

• Develop the delivery model and intake process for metrics and reporting initiatives.

• Lead analytics and reporting services for business areas utilizing certified metrics.

• Enhance analytics capabilities within business functions and establish paths for transitioning analytics ownership.

• Direct the external business intelligence delivery team, overseeing capacity planning, work allocation, quality review, and partner performance management.

• Provide metrics and reporting engineering capabilities to cross-functional data product teams.

• Create and sustain reusable semantic models and reporting delivery patterns.

⛳️ Requirements

• A Bachelor’s degree is required, preferably in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or a related technical discipline.

• 8–12 years of experience in developing enterprise metrics, reporting, and business intelligence solutions.

• 3–5+ years of experience leading analytics engineering, BI engineering, or reporting teams.

• Practical experience managing an enterprise reporting platform such as Power BI, Tableau, Looker, or Qlik.

• Familiarity with content governance, dataset certification, row-level security, and performance tuning.

• Experience with semantic layer or OLAP modeling technologies such as AtScale, dbt Semantic Layer, Cube, LookML, or Analysis Services.

• Background in directing external delivery partners or contractor teams, including capacity planning, work allocation, and quality management.

• Experience leading an analytics or insights team that directly supports business functions.

• Preference for experience in building analytics capabilities within business functions and facilitating ownership transitions.

• Experience with cloud data platforms, ideally AWS, and dbt-modeled data.

• Proficiency in dimensional modeling, semantic modeling, and metric definition.

• Strong command of SQL and a BI calculation language such as DAX or MDX.

• Solid understanding of enterprise BI platform architecture, content governance, and performance optimization.

• Ability to develop reusable patterns and standards that enhance delivery across internal and partner teams.

• Strong skills in managing delivery partners and contractors, including capacity planning and quality control.

• Proven leadership and people-management abilities.

• Capable of functioning within a governance model established by others while upholding engineering standards.

• Ability to balance speed, quality, and operational stability.

• Excellent problem-solving, analytical thinking, and decision-making skills.

• Strong communication and influencing capabilities with both technical and business stakeholders.
