Senior Legal Counsel, Employment

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Australia.

📋 Description

• Provide strategic and commercially viable counsel on employment law issues within the APAC region.

• Advise on everyday employment concerns for Canva’s employee and contingent workforce, covering performance management, separations, investigations, and regulatory challenges.

• Collaborate closely with People, Total Rewards, Finance, and other essential stakeholders to facilitate Canva’s growth and adapting workforce model.

• Assist in the development and execution of scalable employment frameworks, policies, processes, and guidance.

• Identify and manage legal risks related to employment while supporting Canva’s growth and operational goals.

• Deliver actionable training and guidance to People teams and business leaders.

• Work alongside Employment Legal colleagues globally on cross-border issues, strategic initiatives, and shared objectives.

• Oversee employment disputes, claims, and regulatory inquiries, collaborating with external counsel as necessary.

⛳️ Requirements

• Must be admitted to practice in Australia or a comparable jurisdiction.

• Over 8 years of post-qualification experience focused on employment law, acquired in a prominent law firm and/or an in-house legal team (preferably in tech).

• Experience in multiple jurisdictions or within a multinational environment is highly valued.

• Extensive experience advising senior stakeholders on intricate employment and employee relations issues.

• Proven ability to balance legal risks with commercial and personnel considerations.

• Exceptional judgment and comfort in navigating a fast-paced, dynamic environment.

• Strong communication and stakeholder management abilities, with a talent for translating complex legal concepts into practical advice.
