Senior Legal Counsel – Content Safety, Product & Privacy

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Australia.

📋 Description

• Identify and provide guidance on legal matters in crucial areas such as online content, product safety (including youth and AI), platform regulations, privacy, intellectual property, and AI governance.

• Establish robust relationships with key stakeholders by advising on product development (including Generative AI products), go-to-market strategies, and risk mitigation, with a particular emphasis on safety concerns.

• Contribute to the formulation and implementation of company-wide safety policies and procedures, including handling regulatory, governmental, and law enforcement inquiries, developing scalable risk assessment frameworks, and monitoring compliance (particularly regarding online and child safety).

• Draft and update legal playbooks and internal guidelines.

• Collaborate closely with teams focused on policy, intellectual property, security, product management, trust and safety regulations, and engineering.

• Assist in creating scalable and efficient legal review processes to facilitate the launch of new products.

• Engage in the review and coordination of potential safety, privacy, or data security incidents (including being on call), encompassing investigations, notifications, and other resolution efforts.

⛳️ Requirements

• Must be legally qualified with an AU/NZ practising certificate.

• At least 8 years of legal practice experience, including some in-house experience.

• Knowledge of key online safety laws and regulations, as well as privacy, platform, and consumer laws related to digital products and generative AI (e.g., Digital Services Act, Online Safety Act (UK and AU), GDPR).

• Comprehensive understanding of contemporary AI technologies and products.

• Experience dealing with data incidents and requests from government authorities.
