Senior Java Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Create and develop essential features within the Wowza Streaming Engine with a focus on testability and scalability.

• Design and execute advanced transcoding workflows for new codecs and accelerators.

• Develop and implement highly scalable packaging processes.

• Troubleshoot and resolve issues reported by customers, including bugs and performance challenges.

• Engage in cross-functional projects from initial concept to final deployment.

• Serve as a resource for team members as a streaming subject matter expert.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 8 years of practical Java development experience in performance-critical, large-scale systems.

• Profound understanding of Java concurrency and multithreading, including thread pools, locks, synchronization, concurrent data structures, and the design of thread-safe components for high-throughput workloads.

• Solid knowledge of JVM internals, including garbage collection tuning (G1, ZGC, Shenandoah), heap/off-heap memory management, and GC pause optimization for latency-sensitive applications.

• Demonstrated ability to optimize Java applications for memory, CPU, and GPU usage using standard Java profiling and diagnostic tools.

• Experience with JNI (Java Native Interface) for integrating Java with native C/C++ libraries while safely managing cross-boundary memory and threading.

• Background in unit testing, performance testing/tuning (including heap and thread dump analysis), and debugging intricate multithreaded Java applications.

• More than 5 years of experience in transcoding and packaging workflows (Wowza or a similar platform).

• In-depth knowledge of video codecs such as H.264/AVC, H.265/HEVC, VP8/VP9, and AV1.

• Practical experience with GPU or VPU accelerated transcoding pipelines.

• Extensive familiarity with common streaming protocols including RTMP, RTSP, HLS, MPEG-DASH, CMAF, and WebRTC.

• Understanding of content encryption and DRM.

• Acquaintance with video quality metrics like PSNR, SSIM, and VMAF.
