Senior Java Developer – Platform Modernization

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Poland.

📋 Description

• Revise and modernize legacy logic from current Java/Spring code, Oracle schemas, and PL/SQL into clean, thoroughly tested Spring Boot services.

• Develop a new cloud-native platform utilizing Azure with PostgreSQL for operations and Databricks for analytics and reporting.

• Design and implement backend services using Java/Spring Boot across domain, business logic, persistence, and API layers.

• Evaluate legacy code and recreate business logic with tests demonstrating behavioral parity.

• Create PostgreSQL schemas, JPA/Hibernate mappings, versioned Flyway/Liquibase migrations, and optimize query performance.

• Execute Oracle-to-PostgreSQL data migration and reconciliation tools for parallel executions and cutover processes.

• Build contract-first REST APIs utilizing OpenAPI specifications.

• Implement asynchronous integrations and event flows using technologies like Azure Service Bus and Kafka, incorporating retries, idempotency, and error handling.

• Provide operational-platform data feeds into Databricks in collaboration with data engineers.

• Write automated unit, integration, Testcontainers, and contract tests.

• Contribute to CI/CD pipelines, containerization, and Azure deployment across DEV, TEST, and PROD environments.

• Establish logging, monitoring, and alerting systems for round-the-clock operations.

• Engage in troubleshooting and ensure production readiness prior to go-live.

• Work closely with the Business Analyst/Product Owner on user stories and acceptance criteria.

• Conduct code reviews within the development team.

⛳️ Requirements

• A minimum of 5+ years of professional experience as a Java backend developer, with recent projects focused on hands-on coding.

• Proficient programming abilities in Java 5+, Spring Boot, and the Spring ecosystem.

• Strong relational database expertise in PostgreSQL and Oracle, including SQL, JPA/Hibernate, schema migrations, and performance optimization.

• Capability to read and comprehend PL/SQL.

• Experience working with legacy codebases, including reading, refactoring, and securely migrating existing logic.

• Proven experience in developing REST APIs.

• Familiarity with asynchronous, message-driven integrations such as Kafka, Azure Service Bus, RabbitMQ, or IBM MQ.

• Practical knowledge of Azure services, including AKS or App Service, Azure Functions, Service Bus, Key Vault, and Entra ID.

• Experience with containerization using Docker/Kubernetes.

• Strong emphasis on testing discipline, including unit, integration, and contract testing.

• Background in business-critical, high-availability systems where reliability and accuracy are essential.

• Experience utilizing AI coding assistants or agentic workflows in daily delivery tasks.

• Excellent communication skills in English.
