
Senior HR/People Ops Specialist – Payroll, Benefits, Compliance

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Costa Rica.
• Take ownership of pre-hire compliance requirements, which include right to work checks, documentation, and ensuring contract readiness, making sure employees are properly set up before their first day.
• Manage transactions related to new hires, departures, and employment changes – generating contracts, amendments, employment verifications, salary certificates, and formal notices.
• Prepare, verify, and submit payroll inputs, encompassing salary, incentives, deductions, and adjustments.
• Conduct audits on outputs from payroll providers, reconciling discrepancies and identifying errors before they are noticed by employees.
• Ensure proper management of social security contributions, income tax withholdings, and settlements, including cesantías and liquidaciones.
• Oversee the enrollment, changes, and issue resolution for private healthcare and statutory benefits.
• Handle leave processes, including both statutory and company leave, ensuring consistency across policy, systems, and payroll outputs.
• Serve as the primary resource for employee inquiries regarding employment terms, payslips, taxes, and benefits, resolving issues with clarity and confidence.
• Stay informed of regulatory changes and implement them proactively to ensure compliance with CCSS, MTSS, DGT, and INS.
• Assist with audits, filings, and statutory reporting for Costa Rica.
• Maintain accurate and organized employee data across HRIS and payroll systems.
• Experience in HR services and payroll coordination.
• Familiarity with labor law and employment practices in Costa Rica, along with the capability to apply this knowledge practically.
• Practical experience in benefits and leave management, including their implications for payroll and compliance.
• Strong execution skills. You are comfortable with detailed, repetitive tasks such as data input, audits, and reconciliation, consistently identifying issues that others may overlook.
• Demonstrated ability to work independently without complete structure, interpreting requirements and developing practical, suitable processes as needed.
