Senior Home Loan Underwriter

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Washington.

📋 Description

• Evaluate and make home loan lending decisions in accordance with STCU policies, specific product details, and secondary market investor guidelines.

• Operate autonomously while also offering guidance and support to colleagues as needed.

• Exhibit comprehensive expertise and understanding of home loan underwriting guidelines, ensuring compliance with all regulatory requirements.

• Assess borrower repayment capability and property/program eligibility by reviewing and analyzing income documentation, asset documentation, credit reports, appraisals, AVMs, title reports, and more.

• Maintain alignment with STCU’s risk tolerance and portfolio quality by applying strong analytical skills, sound judgment, and thorough evaluation when considering exception requests and complex loans.

• Serve as a senior member of the underwriting team by providing essential feedback, mentoring, and training to loan officers, processors, and other underwriters as necessary.

⛳️ Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent is required.

• Bachelor’s Degree in business, finance, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience is preferred.

• A minimum of five years of independent mortgage underwriting experience is required.

• Prior experience in government underwriting is highly preferred.

• Previous experience with loan origination software is mandatory.

• Proficient knowledge of working with an Automated Underwriting System (AUS) and operating in a paperless environment is essential.

• Familiarity with Encompass is preferred.

• Proficient in using MS Office applications including Outlook, Word, Excel, and Teams.

• Understanding of policies, procedures, and established processes to support compliance requirements.
