Senior GIS Developer – Spatial Data, Integration

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Oversee the creation of species range maps for all marine and anadromous taxa.

• Adhere to the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service Range Mapping Standard Operating Procedure.

• Compile and standardize range data sourced from cloud data platform outputs.

• Execute transformations of coordinate reference systems and standardize spatial formats.

• Verify spatial intersects against recognized geographic layers.

• Manage dynamic habitat boundaries and overlapping Critical Habitat designations.

• Coordinate iterative review processes with FWS Ecological Services and NOAA Fisheries Subject Matter Experts (SMEs).

• Integrate feedback and generate updated versions of the maps.

• Create Quality Assurance documentation for each range map.

• Facilitate FWS Ecological Services approval on the Range Map Set deliverable.

• Assist in the development of updated range maps and operational handoff documentation.

⛳️ Requirements

• A Bachelor’s Degree plus 2 years of professional experience, or a high school diploma/equivalent with 6 years of professional experience.

• U.S. Citizenship is mandatory.

• Capability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust clearance.

• All tasks must be conducted within the United States.

• Practical GIS experience focused on species range mapping or federal environmental applications.

• Direct involvement with FWS Range Mapping SOP or comparable federal range mapping standards.

• Expertise in ArcGIS, QGIS, or similar GIS platforms.

• Proficient in Python for GIS automation and spatial data processing, including ArcPy or equivalent scripting libraries.

• Proficient in SQL for querying and validating spatial data within cloud data platforms.

• Experience with coordinate reference system transformations and normalization of spatial data.

• Experience in conducting spatial intersect validation and Critical Habitat analysis.

• Strong quality assurance documentation skills for geospatial deliverables.
