Senior GIS Developer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in New York.

📋 Description

• Play a key role in advancing geospatial data and tooling requirements for a large-scale initiative.

• Join a team of GIS engineers tasked with acquiring geospatial data across various modalities.

• Develop geospatial data automation and tools within an AI/ML pipeline for innovative applications.

• Conduct research and compile data for designated regions from diverse sources, including imagery, raster data, vector data, and point clouds.

• Identify and obtain data from free and public domain sources, while engaging in partnerships with commercial data providers.

• Support the management of data coverage, currency, quality, and cost.

• Create and utilize automated tools (for instance, leveraging open-source libraries like GDAL and proprietary tools) to clean, resize, reformat, and align data for internal customer use.

• Oversee tooling that automatically post-processes the output of a geospatial AI/ML pipeline for utilization by other teams.

• Collaborate closely with various teams within our organization and partner with AI/ML teams to provide the diverse data needed for developing new machine learning models.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in GIS, Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related discipline.

• A minimum of 2 years of relevant industry experience in a dynamic, high-growth technology environment.

• Familiarity with GIS modalities and formats, including but not limited to orthoimagery (e.g., GeoTIFF), point clouds such as LiDAR (e.g., LAS/LAZ), vector data (e.g., ESRI Shapefiles, GeoJSON, OSM), and raster data containing elevation and terrain information such as DTM, DSM, and DEMs, as well as raster data that reflects land cover.

• Experience in software engineering, particularly in the design and architecture of software solutions.

• Proficiency in Python for automating routine tasks and/or contributing to our existing toolkit is essential.
