Senior Game Data Analyst

Posted May 10

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California.

📋 Description

• Lead the analysis of player behavior, feature and content performance, monetization strategies, and the overall health of the game.

• Transform ambiguous design, product, and publishing inquiries into well-defined analytical plans and actionable recommendations.

• Create proxy metrics to assess player-experience objectives such as pacing, challenge, friction, agency, and diversity.

• Integrate telemetry data, playtests, surveys, sentiment analysis, and product context to determine if features are performing as expected.

• Utilize judgment in the face of imperfect data, including small sample sizes, pre-launch tests, incomplete telemetry, erratic signals, and inherent biases.

• Address commercial inquiries related to launches, acquisition strategies, segmentation, campaigns, and the overall health of franchises.

• Develop dashboards and analytical structures that facilitate consistent decision-making processes.

• Clearly communicate insights across design, product, publishing, research, engineering, data science, and leadership teams.

⛳️ Requirements

• A minimum of 4 years of analytics experience in the gaming industry, preferably in support of game development, live operations, player behavior analysis, feature evaluation, or gameplay systems.

• At least 2 years of experience on a shipped game, live service game, or within a game team navigating rapid development cycles such as playtests, launches, live events, or content releases.

• Understanding of the complexities of game development, including shifting priorities, incomplete information, telemetry gaps, cross-functional dependencies, and the need for timely decision-making without perfect data.

• Proficient in SQL with experience handling large behavioral datasets, particularly event-level gameplay data.

• Strong skills in exploratory analysis and the ability to convert raw gameplay data into clear insights.

• Experience in analyzing player behavior and game systems, focusing on aspects such as progression, combat, economy, difficulty, matchmaking, feature adoption, engagement, retention, or segmentation.

• Proven ability to collaborate directly with designers, producers, product managers, researchers, engineers, or game leadership.

• Capacity to differentiate between similar behavioral signals, such as challenge versus frustration, friction versus intentional difficulty, novelty versus sustained engagement, or confusion versus experimentation.

• Excellent communication skills, capable of articulating what the data indicates, what remains uncertain, and what the next steps should be for teams.

• Educational background in statistics, mathematics, economics, computer science, or another quantitative field.
