This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Take ownership of designing and constructing backend services that support commerce workflows and integrations, in addition to frontend solutions.
• Create and sustain production-quality services utilizing Python, Django, and Django REST Framework.
• Collaborate with product and engineering teams to devise scalable system solutions.
• Participate in architectural discussions and enhance service-oriented systems and event-driven architectures employing technologies like SNS, SQS, or event buses.
• Write backend code that is maintainable, secure, and rigorously tested.
• Enhance system reliability, performance, observability, and operational resilience.
• Develop and manage APIs utilized by internal services, external partners, and third-party integrations.
• Work with relational databases such as PostgreSQL, focusing on schema design, query optimization, and data modeling.

• Refactor and modernize legacy systems as the platform progresses.
• Deploy and manage services in AWS-based environments, utilizing modern cloud infrastructure patterns.
• Contribute to and enhance CI/CD pipelines to ensure safe, automated, and effective testing and deployments.
• Troubleshoot production issues, engage in root cause analysis, and implement long-term solutions.
• Participate in code reviews and advocate for robust engineering standards, testing practices, and operational excellence.
• 5+ years of experience as a backend engineer in a production environment.
• Strong proficiency in building backend services using Python and Django.
• Experience in designing, constructing, and maintaining REST APIs, ideally with Django REST Framework.
• Familiarity with relational databases, particularly PostgreSQL, and handling large datasets.
• A solid understanding of backend application architecture, data modeling, and service design.
• Strong debugging, problem-solving, and production troubleshooting abilities.
• Experience with distributed systems and event-driven architectures.
• Knowledge of asynchronous processing, background jobs, queues, or event-based workflows.
• Familiarity with containerized environments such as Docker and Kubernetes.
• Experience in deploying and managing services in AWS or similar cloud environments.
• Proficiency in automated testing, CI/CD, observability, and operational best practices.
• Experience in regulated industries, such as financial services or cannabis, is a plus.
