This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Canada.
• Design and enhance GraphQL schemas within a federated graph, including server-driven UI contracts for both mobile and web clients.
• Identify significant schema changes, coordinate migrations with leads from iOS, Android, and web teams, and ensure generated client models remain synchronized.
• Develop, scale, and optimize GraphQL APIs, RPC endpoints, and SQL queries.
• Create front-end applications and shared libraries using React and TypeScript.
• Construct fast and accessible web applications.
• Collaborate with product and design teams to architect and deliver customer-facing features.
• Utilize observability tools to diagnose issues and enhance guest experiences.
• Establish and fine-tune monitoring and alerting systems in DataDog.
• Enhance code quality by recognizing technical debt and suggesting improvements.
• Identify production bottlenecks and risks while driving platform-scaling enhancements.
• Guide teammates through code reviews, pair programming, and documentation efforts.
• Engage in design, architecture, and feature delivery within a cooperative agile team setting.
• Write comprehensive tests for features and bug fixes.
• Collaborate with QA to strengthen automated testing pipelines and CI/CD workflows.
• Utilize Claude Code in daily development tasks.
• Carry out additional responsibilities as required.
• A minimum of 5 years of experience in software engineering.
• Proficient in JavaScript, TypeScript, and React, along with strong UX instincts.
• Over 2 years of experience designing and evolving GraphQL schemas for product surfaces utilized by iOS, Android, and web clients.
• Strong understanding of HTML, CSS, and browser technologies, including the DOM, events, and platform APIs.
• A solid foundation in computer science, covering data structures, distributed systems, algorithms, and software design.
• Comprehension of production systems at scale, including load testing and tracing.
• Experience in investigating and resolving production performance regressions, CPU hotspots, and latency issues in high-throughput services.
• Familiarity with on-call rotation for a production service and complete ownership of release processes.
• Proficient in authoring technical specifications, runbooks, and cross-team design documents.
• Experience with API development using Node, Bun, Phoenix, Ruby on Rails, FastAPI, or Laravel.
• Background in building and integrating multi-client or white-label platforms, including geo-based routing and brand-specific configurations.
• Experience with Kubernetes and containerized services.
• Proficiency with terminal tools, Git, and GitHub or similar platforms.
• Familiarity with testing frameworks such as Jest, Vitest, ExUnit, RSpec, or pytest.
• Nice to have: Experience with Apollo Federation at scale, Absinthe, iOS or Android development with Swift or Kotlin, hexagonal architecture, domain-driven design, relational databases, background job processing, asynchronous event infrastructure, open-source contributions, startup experience, and a passion for sports or esports.
