• Take charge of the development of new features from inception to completion, collaborating with Product for requirement refinement, and overseeing shipping and monitoring in production.
• Spearhead the technical design of major system modifications and establish development standards for the Backend team.
• Guide and mentor colleagues while being open to learning from them as well.
• Show enthusiasm for emerging technologies and seek practical opportunities to improve our current technology stack.
• Work autonomously: identify issues, suggest solutions, and execute them without requiring management oversight.
• Proficient in leading substantial projects using modern PHP (7/8+) with a strong grasp of Object-Oriented Design, testability, and the trade-offs associated with common patterns.
• Capable of delivering production-ready React/TypeScript features from start to finish independently.
• Experience with high-traffic web applications, understanding the potential issues at scale such as database hotspots, caching, queueing, idempotency, and observability.
• Hands-on experience with MySQL or similar databases; able to read an EXPLAIN plan and resolve slow queries without guesswork.
• Skilled in designing and utilizing HTTP APIs, including navigating the complexities of third-party reliability.
• Regularly utilize modern AI coding tools (Claude Code, Cursor, Copilot, or similar) in your workflow, maintaining a healthy skepticism of their outputs, and ensuring you don't merge code that you do not fully comprehend.
• Collaborate effectively with Product Managers to refine requirements, provide constructive feedback, and offer realistic estimates.
• Demonstrate strong problem-solving abilities, attention to detail, and the instinct to question the necessity of added complexity.
• Experience with DevOps practices among major cloud providers (AWS / GCP / Azure).
• Familiarity with Kubernetes and CI/CD pipelines.
• Knowledge of Python, Node, or other backend languages; we prioritize polyglot abilities over a specific tech stack.
• Experience with Elasticsearch and GraphQL.
• Background in evaluating or building features that integrate LLMs into a product (prompt design, RAG, evaluations, cost/latency considerations).
• Tailored career development planning with structured annual reviews and informal check-ins throughout the year.
• Support for growth into the role of Feature Development Lead.
• Competitive salary package.
• Sufficient time allocated for learning new concepts, including funding for development and business-related conferences.
• Fully remote work environment, eliminating commuting costs.
• Flexible working hours; while attendance is expected for a 10am stand-up, you can work at times that suit your schedule.
• 25 days of holiday (plus public holidays), with an extra day added for each year of service.
• Regular company-wide social events and quarterly team gatherings.
• A team that genuinely enjoys learning and collaborating to deliver results.
