This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Germany, +2 more states.
• Design and enhance the foundational frontend platforms that support n8n’s workflow-building experience.
• Take ownership and further develop essential frontend platform components to ensure a scalable, extensible, and maintainable workflow builder.
• Strengthen plugin systems, extension points, and enhance the frontend developer experience.
• Modularize the extensive frontend codebase, enabling product teams to leverage shared foundations.
• Architect the canvas-based workflow-building interface.
• Develop and enhance real-time collaboration features utilizing WebSockets, CRDTs, or multiplayer synchronization techniques.
• Create accurate, accessible, and user-friendly systems for complex interactive workflows.
• Optimize rendering performance, runtime behavior, and overall responsiveness.
• Measure, profile, and enhance frontend performance bottlenecks.
• Contribute to web worker orchestration and the overall frontend infrastructure.
• Lead technical decisions through proposals, RFCs, and engineering discussions.
• Collaborate effectively with product engineering, QA, DX, Security, Staff Architects, and the open-source community.
• Provide support to peers through code reviews, pair programming, mentoring, and knowledge sharing.
• Proven experience in developing architecture-intensive frontend products like canvas-based tools, real-time applications, collaborative editors, or similarly intricate interfaces.
• Proficient in measuring, debugging, and enhancing runtime performance in large-scale frontend applications.
• Strong expertise in TypeScript for frontend development.
• Experience working within a large, dynamic codebase.
• Demonstrated ownership of significant frontend systems, migrations, or complex re-architectures.
• A systems-thinking mindset that considers trade-offs, correctness, platform contracts, maintainability, and scalability.
• Excellent communication skills and ability to collaborate across functions.
• Interest in refactoring, modularization, technical debt reduction, and enhancing existing systems.
• Nice to have: Experience with CRDTs, multiplayer systems, collaborative editors, or real-time communication layers.
• Nice to have: Familiarity with plugin systems, extension architectures, micro-frontends, or web worker orchestration.
• Nice to have: Experience with Vue.js.
• Nice to have: Contributions to or maintenance of open-source projects.
• Nice to have: Familiarity with workflow engines, developer tools, infrastructure-adjacent SaaS, or technical products.
• Nice to have: Exposure to large-scale SaaS environments.
• Nice to have: Experience in cloud, single-tenant, or self-hosted setups.
• Nice to have: Skills in instrumentation, debugging, rollout safety, and observability.
• Must possess the right to work in countries outside of Germany; n8n can sponsor visas to Germany.
