This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Texas.
• Conduct thorough and independent investigations to ascertain the origin and cause of fires and explosions, focusing mainly on structures and identifying fire causes in commercial properties or residences.
• Examine assigned claims that are suspected of insurance fraud, which includes significant loss, major fire incidents, and multiple claims.
• Ensure that all assigned cases are investigated and reported back to the requesting party in line with best practices.
• Investigate sites and deliver expert testimony based on the findings regarding the origin and cause of fires, articulating results clearly and concisely during depositions and trials.
• Maintain confidentiality of assigned claims files; document all pertinent information related to files in the appropriate claims handling systems and keep management updated on developments that could influence claims outcomes.
• Review and promptly make recommendations on the results of investigations.
• Offer guidance and recommendations to claims leadership and associates regarding claims resolution.
• Build and sustain rapport and collaboration with federal, state, and local government agencies, as well as private information bureaus that can aid in investigative efforts.
• Identify and interview all witnesses or involved individuals who may have relevant information or knowledge related to the incident under investigation, including motive, opportunity, or any other evidence.
• Independently conclude investigations, determining negligence and any violations of laws.
• Maintain and enhance technical expertise within the area of specialization concerning existing laws related to privacy rights and the accessibility of public records to ensure that all investigations are conducted legally and ethically.
• May provide investigative guidance to members of the Fire Investigator team.
• Preferred Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
• IAAI Certified Fire Investigator (IAAI-CFI) certification is preferred.
• Certified Fire & Explosion Investigator (CFEI) certification is the minimum requirement for consideration.
• A minimum of five (5) years of fire investigation experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience is required.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Proficient in PC usage, including advanced capabilities in Microsoft Office products.
